We have a warm 69° at 4am this morning with only a couple hundredths of an inch of rain in the past 24 hours (in Otsego). This will be one of those days to do indoor projects with on and off rain.
Below is the current 24 hour rainfall map (as of 4am) – there is a wide swath of 2 to 4+ inches from Grand Rapids to the north with more on the way.
The bands of rain will move southward today with the cold front with the expectation of one to two inches across the central and south zones before finally clearing out late tomorrow. Below is the current hazards map for today with flood advisories and watches:

September 29
1953: Temperatures soared to the 90s across western Michigan. Grand Rapids hit 93 degrees and Muskegon 92 degrees, both record highs and records for the latest date of a 90 degree reading.
1967: Wet snowflakes fell at Grand Rapids and Lansing. The high of 42 degrees at Lansing is the coldest high temperature for the month of September.
1986: A severe weather outbreak produces high winds, large hail and two tornadoes across Lower Michigan. One person was injured in Van Buren County as a tornado hit near Mattawan. Six houses were destroyed by a tornado near Rankin in Genesee County.
2006: Several waterspouts were observed on Lake Michigan. One was about 5 miles offshore of Holland, while another was sighted just offshore of Saugatuck. This waterspout approached the coast and may have come onshore, but no damage was noted.
September 30
1899: September ended on a very cool note with a record low of 21 degrees at Lansing and afternoon highs only in the 40s. The high of 44 degrees at Muskegon made for the coldest September maximum temperature on record there.
October 1
1897: Temperatures reach record highs with both Lansing and Grand Rapids hitting 89 degrees. It is the highest temperature ever recorded in October at Grand Rapids.
1974: Cloudy and cold weather prevails with high temperatures in the 40s and snowflakes observed at Muskegon.
October 2
1880: A tornado cut a 15 mile long path of destruction from southern Barry and Eaton Counties into northern Calhoun County. Two children were killed and several other people injured near Bellevue, when the tornado picked up a house and carried it 200 feet before it disintegrated. The roar of the tornado could be heard six miles away.
October 3
1898: Lansing hits 90 degrees for its highest October temperature.
1954: Heavy rains cause some minor flooding across southwest Lower Michigan. Grand Rapids and Muskegon both have their wettest October days on record with rainfall totals around 3.5 inches.
1974: Temperatures plummet into the 20s as very cold weather continues. Record lows include 22 degrees at Lansing, 23 at Grand Rapids, and 25 at Muskegon.
October 4
1935: Snowflakes are observed across Lower Michigan and Grand Rapids has a record cold high temperature of 42 degrees.
1951: Summer-like weather prevailed with lows in the mid 60s and highs in the 80s. Record highs include 87 degrees at Grand Rapids, 86 at Lansing and 83 at Muskegon.
October 5
2005: Balmy weather prevails across Lower Michigan, especially along the coast of Lake Michigan, where the low temperature for the day at Muskegon is a record warm 70 degrees, followed by a high of 80 degrees
2 day rainfall total of 1.43” here. Couple weeks ago we had a lot more when we went over 2 and a half inches in two days.
Two day total here of 2.33″. For Kent county there are many reports of over 2″ of rain. In Ottawa county the reports are much less.

Wow, yesterday was +17 degrees above average! Today looks to be another above average day. Usually by now we would have had some 30’s-mid 40’s for overnight lows but not this year. Everything is still so green!

We’ve had just over an inch total yesterday and today, that’s amazing? Not every area receives the totals that your house gets. 80’s were hit in some areas yesterday as well with heat index readings well over that. Still 69 here, 70 in Holland.
New record warmest minimum set at Grand Rapids and Muskegon. The low for yesterday at GRR of 69 and the low of 68 set new warmest minimums for both locations for October 1st The H/L at Grand Rapids yesterday was 77/69 and there was 0.67” of rain fall up to midnight. For today the average H/L is 66/46. The record high is 87° set in 1971 and the record low is 27 set in 1974. The record warmest minimum is 63 set in 1971 and the coldest maximum is 44 set in 1974. Last year the H/L was 65/56.

A very wet night here. At 7 am I reported 2.09” of rain. At this time it is still raining here, the temperature has dropped from 67 at 6:30 and is now at 63° with a DP of 63 with that rain that is falling.

I wish it would freeze to kill all the bugs from this tropical air, but there is nothing remotely close to freezing in the outlooks.

70 degrees, wet and humid coming in to work this morning. Feels like we live in the tropics. Just over 1 inch of rain overnight.
