More Cold & Snow

I thought our neighborhood would get away without damage from the high winds however my neighbors car took the brunt of a weakened tree yesterday as it snapped in two and fell across the full length of the vehicle – ouch….  I also noticed a large rotted basswood tree in the woods next to my property was uprooted….

Here are the highest recorded wind speeds from NWS

I have the ticker up again for a winter weather advisory for Ottawa, Kent, Ionia and Clinton counties on to the north for three to six inches of snow.  Counties south of I96 may see a couple inches and may see some freezing drizzle tomorrow.

We have some light snow around the area this morning which will taper off this afternoon then redevelop tonight when the advisory goes into effect.

    2. The roads are worse today that many of the previous snow days. Funny thing is, no school closures over here. Told our kids that from this point on, it will have to be really bad for schools to close.

  6. Getting freezing rain/drizzle this morning. Windshield completely glazed over on the way to work. Chicago Drive is a sheet of ice between Zeeland and Hudsonville.

  7. Spring…Rising temps…comical. Our future is nothing more than temps in the teens for the next 90+ days. It may be hard to take, but overall, it’s a great reminder for residents of the Southern Arctic.

  8. Snow has all but stopped here, and looking at the radar it is all North of us. About 1 inch total here.

  10. We are getting pounded with snow! We are well on our way to at least 4 inches of beautiful fresh snow!!!!

    1. Oh and I forgot, no sunshine for at least four months. Depression and cabin fever. White outs and then shoveling heavy slushy snow every day. Salt stains on everything. Gross slush in parking lots that soak your shoes and pant legs. Potholes. I’ll add to the list when I think of more.

  11. Winter equals the best season of the year! Skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, snowboarding, ice skating, ice fishing, fireplaces, not dealing with heat and high humidity! I love it!

    1. Winter is the WORST season!! Putting on 16 layers of clothes just to go out and get the mail. Having to walk out on icy sidewalks in the morning to start your frozen car. Scraping ice and snow off your car every day in brutal cold in the morning before work, then scraping again in the evening after work hoping you don’t get frostbite on your nose. Driving in the dark in the morning to work on awful icy roads, driving in the dark in the evening after work on awful icy roads! Weather too cold to do anything outside with any exposed skin. Dealing with horribly high heat bills. Having to deal with brutally cold temps and dangerous wind chills!!

    Winter in Michigan begins well before Thanksgiving and stretches far past Easter, which makes for four-to-six wearisome months of always-gray, always-cold, always-drizzly, but-rarely-snowy-in-a-good-way misery. Some other states may see colder temps or more snow, but Michigan winters are unrivaled for their utter lack of sunshine…

    For the Michigander, this is winter: you leave work at 5 or 6, already in the dead of night…You scrape off your car, then get stuck in traffic as the cars ahead of you gawk at the SUV that has slid into the ditch. You actually look forward to a proper snowfall, just to cover the dirt. Even then, you do not go skiing, because there are no hills…You do not look forward to outdoor winter recreation because there is none. You might go bowling. You probably put on weight.

    In early April you convince yourself it is spring because it is Tigers Opening Day. You overpay for tickets to the game, tell yourself 45 degrees isn’t that cold, and cheer when the sun peeks out at the end of the fourth inning. That is the light at the end of the tunnel. Winter in Michigan is a miserable, miserable time.

    1. Come on, these maps are way off, they’re not even showing the 10 inches of snow they were calling for in the Florida Panhandle yesterday!! Also where’s the 16 inches of snow for San Diego!! I mean they do show the normal 350 inches of snow for Grand Rapids over the next 16 days like usual but come on Southern Texas is feeling left out!

  15. Wow, moderate snow for the last 2+ hours and nearly 2 inches already? Nothing better than temps in the teens with fresh SNOW! Keep it coming!

  16. Andy after March 15th or so maybe 30’s with 40’s the longer it stays cold once it warms up it may not Jump back to cold that’s one good thing with a colder start to March I’m getting ready for Spring myself lots of yard work to do even know I love Winter it’s been a rough one .. INDY..

    1. I hear ya INDY! I’ve got plenty of landscaping to do and I can’t wait to get started! Hey, I’ll take the warmth starting by March 15, it’s way better than last year! I’ll just have to stock up on Sprites to endure the rest of winter!

    1. YES!!! We are waiting impatiently!! I know in Feb. it is still winter and sometimes into even April but honestly I am ready for some nice weather to get out walking. 🙂

  18. Can’t wait for the bounce back on all these way below normal temps!! Once the warm temps hit Spring will be back with a vengeance!!! Can’t wait for Winter’s misery to be over so we can get back out and enjoy life outside of our houses! Also, to not have to risk my life every morning on these awful ice covered roads!!! BRING ON SPRING!!

  19. Local Mets, 13 showed 3 inches but said she thought that was high, the chief on 8 showed 2 inches for Grand Rapids tonight and tomorrow…

  20. Forget the nws snowfall forecast of a couple inches, the latest RDB model gives gr 4 to 6 inches! Bring it!

    2. The current point forecast for GR shows 4.1 inches and for Rockford 4.6 inches! So not sure what you are talking about?

  24. Some places in the upper peninsula have over 5 feet of snow on the ground amazing.. Seeing some incredible pictures of cars being berry snow tunnels and mountains of snow roads closed what a winter ..INDY!

    1. Getting snow in February is crazy? It used to be fairly routine to get snow during Spring break, and that’s not till April.

      2. I remember one Spring break when my kids were all in elementary school and we had 2 snowstorms that week.

  26. With a average high temp 37* degrees now in Grand rapids Michigan it’s 17* degrees out a nother well be low average day.. INDY!

    3. Took a walk today and found a pine tree down at the pond. Ants get into them and hollow them out and then a good wind comes along and snaps it in half.

  29. I believe someone said GR was 5 inches below normal Snowfall for the Winter meteorological season yesterday 63.5 inches is average as of today Grand Rapids Michigan is at 66 inches of snow now above average and after tomorrow’s snowfall no looking back into March…INDY!!

Lol….Well since it starting snowing way back in November Grand rapids is above normal in snowfall and after tomorrow Meteorological snowfall will be above average a win win situation for snow lovers! Could you imagine how many inches of snowfall is not getting counted for due to all the winds crazzy..INDY

        1. Well you are free to speculate all you want on what may or may not happen, but the only thing that counts is what has happened. And in the books, 99 percent of this season has been, and still is, below normal.

  30. We have had more winter weather advisory’s this Winter then I can ever remember pretty good I guess with a mild December we had.. INDY..
