Michigan Wins Big Ten Championship!

Michigan won the big one last night with a 43-22 victory over Purdue winning their second Big Ten Championship game in as many years.  Congratulations to the Wolverines as they move closer to the national championship game.

Yesterday our high was 51° at 4:30 am and the low was 20° as temps fell throughout the day.  We have 20° at 6:30 am with clear skies.

A strong cold front plowed through the area early Saturday morning, producing wind gusts of 45 to 55 mph in the pre-dawn hours.

Fair weather is forecast through Monday. It will be on the cool side today. The wind today will make it feel like it is in the 20s today. The temperature will moderate slightly for Monday as south winds persist. A risk for mixed precipitation is possible by midweek.

Forecast Discussion

...Fairly tame weather through the week...

Quasi zonal flow will keep Arctic air bottled up in Canada for the
next week.

High pressure over the Ohio Valley will produce sunny skies today.
Temperatures will remain a few degrees below normal in the mid 30s.
Next chance of precipitation will come Monday afternoon as a weak
short wave pivoting around the southern periphery of the broad
Canada trough will push a weak cold front across the cwa. This is a
dry system and chances for any precipitation aren`t very good.
Highest chance would be over the northern cwa where mixed rain and
snow are possible. Any accumulations there would only be a tenth of
an inch or two. By Monday night, the system will be east of the cwa.

As mentioned in the previous AFD, a similar situation exists
Tuesday/Tuesday night. Another weak short wave moves through the
Great Lakes and gives us a 25-40 percent chance of precipitation.
Most of that would be rain along the I-94 corridor with mixed
rain/snow north of there.

The best chance of precipitation comes later in the week when a much
stronger short wave moves from the central Rockies across the
southern Great Lakes. Model trends for this system have been to move
the precipitation northward over the cwa. The GFS would be mostly
rain with this system Thursday/Friday. The ECMWF is colder and
roughly half of the ECMWF ensemble members produce a couple inches
of snow. Either way, it does`t look like a significant system.

High temperatures throughout the week will be a couple of degrees
either side of 40, which is near normal.

Congrats to Blue. Now I just hope the committee does not allow Alabama in with two losses. Yes, I’m still bitter about Saban.

They certainly don’t belong in. They didn’t earn it this year.

Their two losses were by three or less points to top 10 teams – so I understand the argument to get them in. BUT, the committee has spoken and they will be playing in the Sugar Bowl. Mark = happy. 🙂

As has been the case several times this year the high yesterday was before sunrise when the high of 50 was reached at 4 AM the temperatures fell most of the day and the low of 22 was reached at 11:30 PM. The overnight low here in MBY reached 17 but is now up to 20. For today the average H/L is 40/28 the record high of 65 was recorded in 2012 and the record low of +6 was recorded way back in 1893.
