First off, I will be posting this late on Friday instead of Saturday morning as I will be taking my son and daughter-in-law to the airport. Todays post will not include the latest weather forecast but I will put in what is the forecast before midnight. I will look at the weather history for Halloween. At Grand Rapids the average high/low for Halloween is 54/38. The record high of 79 was set in 1950, it has reached 70 or better in 10 years, the last time was in 1981. The coldest maximum of 32 was set in 1917. There have been 6 years when the high did not reach 40 the last time was just last year. There have been 7 years with a high of 40 the last time was 1995. 1917 was the year that seen the most snow fall at Grand Rapids when 1.5” fell, 0.4” fell 100 years later in 2017. Last year 0.01” of snow fell. The record low of 20 was set in 1988. As that would be the morning low. The low on November 1st was 36 so it was not as cold for the trick or treat. A low of 21 was recorded in 1976 on November 1st so that was a cold night of trick or treating. And just last year the low on November 1st was 24 and there was snow on the 31st so it was a cold night of treating. The wettest was 1.27” of rain in 1994 and there was 1.21” of rain in 2013. As stated, the H/L last year was 39/28 (the low on the 1st was 24) there was 0.05” of precipitation of that 0.01” fell as snow.
We now have 24 days of October 2024 in the record books it will be yet another month with above average temperatures. So far the only month of below average temperatures this year has been July. The current mean temperature at Grand Rapids for this month is 54.7 that is a departure from average of +1.9 and with the expected warm temperatures expected next week the month will end up above average. The high so far this month has been 79 on the 11th and the lowest so far has been 33 on the 17th and 24th it has been dry and 1.15” rain so far. While some may disagree I think that this years good color has a lot to day with how dry it has been and the number of clear warm day and cool nights.
