Here we are at the end of meteorological summer. I will let Slim our great statistician give you the standings and comparisons to how we stack up against previous summers but it isn’t hard to deny we had a warm one indeed. August ended our dry spell – we had 6.67 inches here in Otsego which is 2 and a half inches above normal.
The feature image is the NAM NEST guess for the Labor day weekend (beginning today) – Rain and thunderstorms will be an off and on feature beginning after midnight tonight through the labor day weekend with the main threats being heavy rains, lightning and wind. It would be a good idea to keep your weather radio handy if you are out camping. We will not see all day rains. A cold front will stall over Michigan over the weekend and into next week so this generally means storms will fire along the front during the afternoon and evening. We are not sure where it will stall, in fact it will probably meander north and south so it is anyone’s guess where the rain and storms will form. Keep you eye on the interactive radar if you are out and about.
Labor day weekend announces the beginning of my favorite season when the pigskins are launched across college football stadiums across this great land of ours. I am sure you know I am a Michigan fan, have been since the days of Bo Schembechler who coached the Wolverines from 1969 to 1989 with a record of 234 wins, 65 losses and 8 ties.
Michigan starts out with a tough game against Notre Dame tomorrow at 7:30pm. Michigan State begins their season tonight at 7pm against Utah state – Western Michigan plays against Syracuse tonight at 6pm (go Broncos) and Central Michigan plays Kentucky tomorrow at 3:30pm. Bill’s Badgers play at Western Kentucky tonight at 9pm.
The Lions start out against the Jets on Monday 9/10 – they have had a bad preseason winning only one out of four games.
Interesting from Bill Marino this afternoon: .LONG TERM…(Monday through Friday) Issued at 245 PM EDT Fri Aug 31 2018 I am very concerned that this will be a very wet week and some locations, maybe many locations, in Southwest Michigan could see excessive rainfall. Now that the ground has gotten saturated over the central and northern parts of the area, this sort of pattern is conducive to flooding problems. Even though our POPs are not all that high through the extend period, that may be really deceiving as some times we think low chances mean a low threat for heavy… Read more »

Great recap Slim! Still wish they would have stats on humisery levels as this was one of the worst years I can remember for feeling awfully uncomfortable.
The start of September looks to be warmer than average but with highs in the low to mid 80’s and low expected in the upper 60’s is should be a great time to get outside and enjoy the Michigan outdoors. Of course, it will be warm for the football players but remember football is played in the south and it is always warm there deep into the season.

GO GREEN – although the game I’m looking forward to watching is tomorrow night.
Off to the beach today! WOOD has another 90 degree day next week. How can that be?
And how was their accuracy when they predicted 2 or 3 days of 90 degree temos last week? They were 100% wrong and they will be wrong again. There are no 90’s in sight and no more heat waves are in sight!
Their prediction was closer than yours! Heat index over 90 degrees three straight days. And more to come!
You are 100% wrong as usual!
Best time of the year is now Football and Fall with cool weather Let’s go Blue!! Have a super weekend bloggers …. INDYDOG14!!
