We adopted another kitten yesterday, she is currently raising havoc on the end table next to my chair. I am more of a dog lover but when an animal is in need of a home when no one wants them we seem to be a magnet for adoption. Luckily my next door neighbor is a veterinary assistant who feels likewise so the animals in the area are well cared for. We both have outside shelters for the cats with food and water and they all get fixed. My wife and I keep one cat inside all the time, the rest come and go. I can’t stress enough about getting your cat fixed if it is going to live outside. I believe we have seven dogs in the neighborhood, we all have fenced yards so they are not running loose, there are at least ten cats who roam freely which is the way of cats.
Today will be another warm and humid day though not as hot as yesterday due to more clouds. Rain and storm chances increase later this afternoon bringing heavy snow and ice (ha, got ya Rocky). No snow and ice but we will see rain especially south of I96. We have a storm system moving into the area Thursday morning with the heaviest rain falling mainly in the I94 corridor though the latest NAM is showing this moving further north into Allegan County on the the east (the yellows and oranges on the map). Precipitable water values are in the one to two inch range.
The rain should end on Friday bringing us a warm and dry weekend before another system moves in by early next week – then a cold front will send us significantly cooler air into the region with temps in the upper 70s to near 80°.
Bring on Fall weather! Who is done with 80’s and ready for the 60’s and 70’s?
To be honest Rocky, i am ready for the cooler weather. Kids go back to school next week. College football starts in under two weeks. It will seem like fall soon. 🙂
70’s sound great!!
I see lows in the 50s next week. Time to open the windows finally.
For what it’s worth, the latest CFSv2 weeklies show nothing but warmth until at least October.
The latest CFSv2 monthlies show the next 8 out of 9 months as being above average. The lone cold month is February.
One has to wonder when this warm trend will end. Keep in mind that the averages are starting to go down now so even above average will be cooler then what it has been.
Slim
From September 2015 until August 2018 there have been 25 months of above average temperatures here at Grand Rapids. (one month July of 2017 came in at average) Of course the next question is when will this break? Remember the longer this continues the warmer the “new” averages will become in 2021.

We do seem to be stuck in a rut. I think the best thunderstorms visually we’ve had the past two years have been in January of all months. We haven’t had a significant snow storm or blizzard either since I believe 2011, the last time we had a blizzard warning. I do not like this trend of more and more humid days. Today just feels terrible outside with the air this thick.
Awww, congrats on the new kitty. I have 4, all of which are rescues. I have had up to 6 as I too cannot let an animal in need be without a loving home. Keep up the great work, the kitties give you back love and affection well beyond what you give.
Wow it now looks like most of the rain will miss the northern part of the GRR forecast area. The total rain fall here at my house has only been 2.18” since June 9th GRR has had much more rain then I have here at my house and things are getting very dry here now. And as for thunderstorms? I have only heard thunder here 3 times all summer long and none of the 3 times was there what I have called a thunderstorm. When was the last time Grand Rapids has a thunderstorm warning or watch? You know there has only been one weak tornado in Michigan in all of 2018 so far?

The west Michigan bubble is in full effect. I don’t think we’ve had a t-storm watch or warning here this season.
Storms…Rain…Sure.
And the beat goes on….Wish we could talk about other weather events like storms we don’t get them anymore around here we can only hope Winter will be better in the storm department..Have a good hump day ….INDY!!
Yup, four year pattern now of no storms of any significance and well above average temps month after month.
Won’t get any big storms unless we see a big cold front to usher them in. Something we haven’t seen all summer. HOT!
There also have been some timing issues with the fronts that we have had. And do not forget the lake shadow. I do believe the east side of the state has seen more thunderstorms this year then over here on the west side. I know the only real storm I seen this summer was up in Alpena.

Not much of a cool down overnight. It was 70 out when I went to work at 5 this morning. Gonna be yet another steamer today with the humidity.
August is now almost a degree warmer than July was! We are going for our 15th straight warm day today. Back-loaded summer?
Remember in June when Rocky was calling for no more 90’s? Or Slim’s models that were showing a cold second half of July and August?
I appreciate Slim’s analysis of model data. Most of that stuff is beyond me. He is first to admit when it turns out differently and will generally provide a summary, or even a comparison of his initial thoughts vs. the actual outcome.
