June Summary

One of the things which stand out for June, of course, was the amount of sunshine we had.  We continue that trend into July with the addition of above-normal temps and dry conditions.

June 2020’s temperatures ranked firmly within the warmest third of all previously recorded Junes. A number of hot and dry days resulted in generally below-normal rain totals and a great deal of sunshine. Damaging winds from severe thunderstorms occurred June 9, 10, and 26.

The Otsego/Plainwell area received just over four inches of rain.  Below are the NWS stats:

Temps will continue to be 10° above normal through the holiday weekend on into next week.

The latest reading at GRR is now at 87. Here at my house I now have a reading of 93. Thanks for the stats! Muskegon is really cooking this year. So much for cooler by the lake. Up to 92 degrees here for I believe our 6th or 7th 90 degree day already. I’d already classify this a HOT Summer and were only 12 days in yet.

With June ending up above average for temps, that now makes 5 of the last 7 months above average. Perfect pattern for Winter time, not so much now. Tried to mow the yard early today but it’s tough going when it’s over 80 degrees just after 9 in the morning.

It looks like June 2020 was indeed the sunniest of record at Grand Rapids with a reported 82.3% of possible sunshine the old record was 81.7% back in 1963. At Grand Rapids there now have been 3 days in a row with highs in the upper 80’s but over at Muskegon they have now had 3 days in a row with highs in the 90’s.
At this time it is clear and 66 here at my house and the last reading at GRR was reported as cloudy?? and 67
