We are looking at having a hot end of June and start of July. The hottest end of June and start of July was back in 2012 when Grand Rapids had 2 hot heat waves the first one was from June 27th until July 9th with highs of 90,97,89,89.91,96,96,99,101,104,99. There was a “break” on the 10th when the high was still a warm 86 and then from July 11th to the 18th highs reached 89,90,94,91,97,99, and 91. I guess our warm weather expert Mookie would call that one heat wave and in this case I would agree. (I would not tell him/her that)
It is now 1 AM and the current temperature here and at the airport is 82° the airport has a current DP of 76° and a reported heat index of 89° with a SW wind at 10 MPH. The record warmest minimum for today is 76° in 1931 and at this time that record is in play.
Any way stay cool and have a great 4th

A decent summer day…94 for the high?. Just right. “Heat Index”?…nothing more than the weather department’s new “gig” to help market the weather. If the temp reaches 94, then it is simply 94 outside…regardless of the flashy graphics, and a bored weather clerks random software formula.
It got to 93 degrees in Hudsonville today. The heat is oppressive. The air feels so heavy.
Will this be the hottest weekend of the summer? I sure hope so. We pretty much spent the whole day in the lake. The water is very warm, but cool relative to the air temp. Thank goodness for the breeze today. This was the definition of oppressive. I see heat indices of 100+° at every corner of the state. We won’t forget about this one for quite some time.
What was the actual high temp in gr today? Do it even get above 93 degrees. It was another nice day on the golf course and then a dip in the pool. Welcome to summer!
Oh yeah, come on over here where I’m working and see how great it feels. 119 degrees indoors here with a dew point in the upper 70s. Just perfect.
Barry, Barry, Barry, I never said it was GREAT. I said it was a nice day on the golf course and then I went swimming. Welcome to summer!
Clap clap.
Yup, another 90 degree day to add to the tally. Keep em coming.
Well on our away to a 100* today I’m thinking between 4 and 5pm 100*s will be on the map it’s hot outside drink lots of water … INDYDOG14!!
With todays DP of 77° I took a look to see if I could find the record highest DP for Grand Rapids. Well sorry to say that Dew Points records are not kept. But with some research I found that on July 13th 1995 Grand Rapids had a Dew Point of 81° at 5 pm that day with a temperature of 97 giving GR a Heat Index of 119° on that date the DP reached 80 at 2PM and it was 80 at 3 and 4 PM before reaching that 81 at 5 PM it fell to 79 at 6 pm but did not fall below 78 that whole night and the over night low was just 81° the next day it was the same as the temperature reached 97 and the DP reached 80 at 1 to 4 PM While I can not say for sure but I would think that 81 DP could be the record for Grand Rapids.

It seems odd that they do not keep records for dew points. They seemingly have records for everything else weather related. Dew points play a critical role in weather and how it feels, but nothing kept.
Just got done with my morning shift and it was miserable. Not looking forward at all to go back this afternoon. It doesn’t really get much worse than this.
Good stuff as always Slim!
11 Am temperature at Grand Rapids is 88° DP is 77° HI is reported at 100°
