While not quite as windy as Thursday, wind gusts of 35 to 45 mph are still expected today out of the west. Light rain showers will pass across southern Michigan, generally south of a Holland to Lansing line. The weekend will be dry and cold with some sunshine with temps in the 40s, then the next system brings a mixture of rain and wet snow on Monday. We may not see the 50s again until mid-week next week. As of today, the CPC is guessing better chances of above-normal temps.
Forecast Discussion
-Gusty winds with bands of Precip Today Gusty winds will again filter down from the upper levels to bring another breezy day to the Lower Peninsula. Cooler daytime temperatures today will allow for less mixing and weaker winds compared to yesterday. However, there will be warm enough temperatures through the thumb of Michigan extending to the US 127 corridor which will bring wind gusts in the 35 to 45 mph range. As such there will be a wind advisory through much of the Central Lower Michigan region today. A boundary discussed below will bring showers to the I 94 corridor that will begin as a wet snow and continue as rain through the day. A large upper level low that is situated over Central Canada will slowly make its way to the east over the next few days. As it does it will cycle several troughs over the region. This upper level low will keep a strong upper level gradient fixed over the Great Lakes. A stationary front is situated across Michigan from Ontario Canada across the Lower peninsula to the Southern end of Lake Michigan. That quasi stationary front is due to a mid to upper level gradient between the aforementioned low and a quasi permanent high situated over the Southern United States. The surface pressure shows a convergence through the mid west with cooler air to the north and warm air south of the Indiana, Michigan and Ohio borders. The convergence along that boundary will couple with a mid to upper level short wave propagating around the upper level low to create precipitation through Southern Michigan, especially along the I 94 corridor. There is a decent amount of mid to low level moisture as it is being cooled and condensed through the mid level convergence. QPFs of up to a quarter of an inch are possible. The cooler air aloft will swing down early which will make a few hours of wet snow possible along the I 94 corridor this morning. This will quickly transition to rain, which will persist through the day and early evening. The band of showers will shift to the south as the gradient progresses to the southeast. -Cooler weather through the weekend Precip on Monday The upper level low will trek eastward, allow for the quasi stationary boundary to shift eastward. This is due to high pressure to build over the central plains. Dry and colder weather will continue through the weekend before another front moves through Monday.

Blake said this morning that the rain should remain from I-96 to the south. If you look at the radar, Blake was spot on.
I live closer to Lansing than Grand Rapids but I don’t think I’ve ever watched a single Lansing news station ever. I only know Blake is there and that’s it I don’t know any of the other meteorologists. All I’ve ever watched are Grand Rapids stations since I grew up around there. Storm Team 8 is my go to.
Current wind chill is below freezing! Wow, just wow! Incredible cold! Golf anyone?
It’s Good Friday, so I’m guessing many people have or took the day off. There has been a steady stream of golfers today on our course. It’s always funny to see golfers with knit caps on.
Incredibly desperate people!
Well…we are “The Southern Arctic”. Fourty two degrees and windy, throughout the year, isn’t out of the question.
I say if is 42 degrees, we might as well go for 32 degrees with heavy Snow! Wouldn’t that be fun!
Yesterday was a good example of on some days timing is everything. A cold front went thru the area around mindsight. It came thru Grand Rapids before and to the east after midnight. That said the official high at Grand Rapids was just 49 (it was 48 at Muskegon) while to the east at Lansing it was 62 and at Detroit it was 67. The current and overnight low in MBY was/is 39 and at this time it is windy with partly cloudy skies to go with that 39.

The weather word of the day and for that matter the week is = Cold! What a cold pattern we are in! Now for the good news, there is a chance of a warmer weekend by next weekend! No NOT a BLOW TORCH, but maybe slightly above normal temps with some sun?
I am sure there will be some warming. But todays CFSv2 long range guess is kind of backing off on the expected warm up. BTW as you know from yesterday there is no such a condition as “blow Torch” in the NWS terminology.

Remember by next weekend the average highs are in the low 60’s

Rock on slim and right now I predict temps in the mid to upper 60’s next weekend! Mark it down!
I’m happy it will be dry for Easter. Breezy yesterday. Found my downspout in my neighbors yard. Good thing there’s a fence, or who knows where it would have ended up.
