It is 6am and we have a freezing mix of precip moving into the area. This is not going to be a pleasant day for outdoor festivities in the state. The feature image from the NWS shows a wide variety of weather for Michigan today and tonight. The winter weather advisory has now included counties along the I96 corridor northward to Mackinac.
– A couple hours of intermittent freezing rain at the onset of precipitation this morning could produce slick spots before transitioning to rain. – Freezing rain amounts around a tenth of an inch are expected this afternoon north of Big Rapids and Mount Pleasant. Isolated quarter-inch ice amounts are possible in central Clare/Osceola counties. Travel could become very difficult as road surface temperatures support ice. – Transition to accumulating snow several hours before midnight could further hinder New Year celebration travel, mainly north of M-46.
With all of this said whether you are celebrating with weed or drink or both have a designated driver, call Uber a taxi or use city bus services or else you may end up being transported in the back of a police car and spend the rest of the night in jail. No one wants to begin the new year that way with the added expense of fines and lawyer fees and of course losing ones license to drive. Be safe, be smart and have a safe New Years Eve.
Can you imagine if all this rain was snow?
Currently snow country is in a WSW for 5 to 8 inches of snow tonight! This includes TC, Boyne and Petoskey! I absolutely love it!!!!!
And currently we are getting beautiful, grass greening RAIN!!
Earlier today Chicago Dr going towards Zeeland had water on it. I was just glad it wasn’t icy. Lots of water around the area.
I hope you are there enjoying it. lol!!
Yawn….sounds awful glad it’s 2.5 hours north of us!
Man, the B1G is not doing well in the bowl games.
Happy New Year, friends!
Both MSU and the u of m offenses look absolutely horrible!
Agreed. State’s defense was fantastic for three quarters. Unfortunately for them, there are four quarters in a game. LOL
Unfortunately their offense could not even score one touchdown!
Huh, imagine that. Just seen on the news Cannosburg is closed for lack of Winter weather. How can this be?

Thank God for SNOW country! Just a short 2 to 3 hr drive to the North! Bring it! I will be heading back up North for the rest of this week for some some great ski conditions! Who would have thought?

Still waiting on that Bill/Kirkwood/Indy/Rocky arctic blast the beginning of January we have been told for weeks now…
Wishcasting at it’s finest!
And mookie was fishing in berrys pond from October16th through December 9th in shorts that he told everyone to keep out till the middle of November lol. Happy new year!! INDY2019!!
Another day of below normal snowfall ..
Time for a new calendar…
Well with 12 hours left in this year, I am thinking we are going to be hard pressed to get those 2 snow storms we were promised a while back. I guess anything is possible?
Lol!!! Another RDB fail!! Even the Lions have a better record than Rocky, LOL!!
Let’s review the facts! Rocky told us that we’d see plenty of snow the last 10 days of December, Indy said the models were showing a big Christmas snow storm like last year, and both thought we’d get slammed with cold and big snow the very beginning of January. And that’s not even mentioning their snowy predictions for December! Oops!
Mookie and Barry have brought up a interesting stat. The number of consecutive days above or below average. That is a stat most if not all NWS offices do not keep track of. On the warm side Grand Rapids had a streak of 49 above average days from December 10 1931 to January 30 1932 in that time Grand Rapids only had 0.7″ of snow fall and for that winter only 41.1″ fell with 25.3″ falling in March of 1932.

Wow, tough record to beat. We’re almost halfway, let’s go for it!
Sounds like we might make a run at that this year!
Looks like most of the hazardous driving conditions will be off to our north. Doesn’t matter to us. We’re staying in tonight.
Happy New Year!
Rain for New Year’s Eve, more 40’s in the extended forecast, and “an uneventful next couple of weeks” according to WOOD. Yikes, the snow lovers are going to lose it.
Grand Rapids might be hard pressed to reach 40″ this winter
Slim
We have now reached 20 consecutive warm days in a row!
Even more impressive looking at the 10 day forecast, we have a good chance of running that up to 30 straight days. That’s just crazy!
The number of consecutive days above or below average is not one that the NWS seems to keep records of. Back in May Grand Rapids had 25 days in a row of above average temps.
