Hot & Humid – Storm Chances

If you like stagnant air masses this is the weather for you – for me not so much.  It is 74° at 7am with another day promising to hit 90 or better.  A cold front pushing down from the north will bring showers and thunderstorms today and tonight and usher in cooler weather for the rest of the week.  We will have to watch for excessive rain amounts in areas where storms train as the front is slow moving and precipitable water values are around 2 inches late today and into tonight.  After the the front moves through our dew points will drop into the 50s which will make it much more pleasant.  Dew points are currently in the 70s which is giving us a feels like temperature of 81 which is pretty warm for early morning.

The various models are all over the place in regards to rainfall amounts as they can’t predict where the training may set up or how fast the front will drop through the area.  Needless to say it will be a welcome relief….

I am working on a major overhaul of the front page of this site with Aeris weather scripts and SDKs which will pull in more weather info for you.  I am learning their scripting language to make this possible so stay tuned….

  3. It’s official. Back to back 90 degree days for GR! Not sure why a lot of people on here only called this a one day event…

      1. Estes Park, heading into Rocky Mountain Park on Tuesday. So awesome out here!

        1. My wife and her sis were in Estes Park last fall for a friend’s wedding. They loved it. Have fun!

  5. GR is up to 88 degrees. Another hot one! A lot of other places are already in the 90’s. Does GR make it to 90 today?

  7. I will agree with Mookie that June will end up warmer then average here at Grand Rapids. After today it looks to be still a little above average for most of the rest of the month with highs in the upper 70’s to mid 80’s the average high starts out today at 80 and is up to 83 by June 30

  8. 81* out at thee YARDofBRICKS not sure it will hit 90* today like all the local stations said it would … Zzm’s on target arrow is laying out on 131 lol!! INDIANADOG!!

  9. After hitting 96 yesterday, Detroit is already up to 90 degrees today at 11am. That’s some heat.

  11. Today will be the 8th straight day of above average temps for GR. It looks all but guaranteed June will finish warmer than average.

  12. With yesterdays high of 92° at Grand Rapids that tied the highest for any Fathers days since 1950. But it fell shot of the record for the date of 95° With clouds and some rain to our north it looks like this 1 day “heat wave” has came to an end.

      1. Real feel that is kind of a “spin” on the temperatures, That would be like using the windchill readings in the winter. Nice for the news reports but few or no record kept on them.

  13. Thunderstorm drought continues in GR the weather headlines of the weekend! Will we ever have a good Thunderstorm .. watches and warnings are becoming a thing of the pass boring weather.. I have not tracked a severe storm in a long time in west Michigan!!! INDY!!

  14. 55 degrees here in Denver this morning with a dew point also in the 50s, sure am glad I am not back home right now, sounds horrible! Heading into the mountains this morning where temps are in the 30s and 40s, going to feel amazing. I will post some snow pics for you all later when we have internet again.

    1. Your timing worked out if it’s just a quick trip. Denver had 4 days in the 90’s last week and could hit 100 degrees next week!

  15. Phew! Hit 96 degrees in Detroit yesterday. Their hottest day of 2018 so far. Looks like most locations should hit 90+ again today.

    Heat Advisory has been extended for many with another day feeling around 100 degrees.

        2. Current readings at Munising are temp 52 wind chill 51 I bet there are people wearing their winter coats up there and the ones who do not have coats wish that they did.

  16. I have to say with only 1 day getting into the 90’s out of the 3 this heat wave was a big bust!! With all the clouds around we see this alot now it’s effecting or heat waves like our Thunderstorms we don’t get them anymore it mines well be winter all year round lol! INDY!!
