The feature image is from the South Haven GRERL cam from yesterday morning showing the rain moving in off the lake. Most reports around Kalamazoo were in the one inch range where the heaviest rain was reported around the I94 corridor. – we received .20 in Otsego. Below are the CoCoRaHS reports for yesterday.
Wow – first day of school today for all the youngsters so watch out for the buses and kids. I graduated high school in 1974, we didn’t even have hand held calculators back then. Atari games had just come out with pong which became boring after a while watching a pixel bounce back and forth between two paddles which were five or six pixels wide. Our main entertainments were found outside in nature – times have changed…..
While August started out dry across the Southwest Michigan, the last week of the August brought most of Southwest Michigan into the top 20 wettest on record. Most areas saw their rainfall totals double for the month. Grand Rapids at 6.61″ is the 7th wettest August on record, Muskegon’s 7.31″ is the 4th wettest on record, Lansing’s 5.21″ is 15th wettest on record and Kalamazoo’s 5.49″ is the 4th wettest on record.
We will see another hot and humid day today with temperatures climbing well into the 80s and dewpoints into the low to mid 70s once again. Below are the SPC predictions for today and tomorrow. Today any storms should stay east of 131 with chances increasing tomorrow as a cold front pushes in from the west. Thursday should begin a cooling trend where we will see temperatures dropping into the low to mid 70s. I am seeing some model data showing 60° readings for the coming weekend as tropical storm Gordon tracks towards Michigan.

One more day of this heat and the temps are suppose to be in the 70’s for highs. I am ready for it. Someone mentioned they have had their a/c on since June – I know I have seen some of the highest electric bills. I don’t think they have ever been this high. I wonder if this is the end of the really hot weather?? Anybody have any thoughts on it?
Mookie and wood were wrong again! Some heat wave! GR has not even hit 90 degrees during this non existent heat wave! Bingo for
Rocky and a fail for mookie again! Get ready for highs in the low 70’s baby!
Oh yes, that high of 89 and heat index of 95 was very refreshing today, felt nothing like 90 degrees at all!
Facts are facts people!
That’s funny. That’s like the people in the Gulf Coast saying, see I told you we wouldn’t get no hurricane. It was only a tropical storm.
What is your obsession with 90°. Isn’t 12° above average hot enough.
I am ready for the 70s.. We have used the AC almost every week since June this summer..
90 in September again!! INCREDIBLE HEAT!!
Dew point of 73 here with a heat index of 97! Topping a 100 heat index is not something I really want to see in September. You just can’t do anything outside in this heat.
But it’s not a heat wave according to some LOL
End of the month average high is 68* for GR the heat will be ending soon lots of 70’s on this way after tomorrow!! Possible heavy rain this weekend from TS Gordon! INDYDOG14!!
Looking like that’s gonna hit Sunday now INDY!
2018 has been a very warm to at times hot summer across much of the central US and that includes Michigan. In Michigan Sault St Marie had it warmest summer on record with a summer mean of 67.4° At Alpena it was the 3rd warmest summer on record there with a mean of 68.2° it was also the 3rd warmest at Traverse City with a mean of 71.1° At Detroit their estimated mean of 74.4° would put them in a tie for 7 warmest with 2011 and 2010. At Flint their mean of 70.5° will not rank them in the top 20. At Saginaw their estimated mean of 71.4° would put them in a tie for 17 place with 2011 and 1959. Here at GR the estimated mean of 72.6° would put Grand Rapids in a 11th place tie with 2005 and 1949. The warmest summer (June 1st to August 31st) is 74.5° in 1921 with 2012 in 2nd place with 73.6°

Even more remarkable is that you are only discussing meteorological summer. If you throw in a very hot May (+6.1 in GR) and what could very well be a warm September, I would imagine many locations would be #1-#5 all-time for the May-September period when all is said and done.
May would come under meteorological spring and September will come under meteorological fall. Will have to wait until January to see how the whole year turns out. To me it is more remarkable of the number of years that are now among the top warmest that have happened since the late 1990’s

Yet another hot sticky night. Feels like mid July. Record ac bills coming for September as well for the 5th month in a row.
I sure hope Rocky is finally using his AC this week. They have been running non-stop!
He never uses it. So, others shouldn’t be using it either. Lol.
GR has started September off HOT. +8.2 degrees above average so far. Detroit has been even hotter. They are going for their 3rd straight 90+ degree day today over there.
It has been a very warm to at times hot summer over much of Michigan. See above for more info on how this past summer stacks up to summers past.
