Yeah, it’s summer, and summer is hot; but heat can be dangerous. HEAT KILLS more people each year than any other weather hazard, including tornadoes, lightning, & floods. You take precautions for those. Give heat the same consideration during this #heatWavehttps://t.co/asAP108BNk pic.twitter.com/2XlPgc2w3Y

Our excessive heat warning continues today through 8pm. I was watching the GRERL webcams yesterday – lots of boats around the piers and people on the beaches. Water temperatures have risen to the low 70s along the lakeshore from Holland to the south and low 60s from Ludington to the north – mid lake buoy temps are 64. I am sure Gun Lake is getting nice and warm due to the shallowness of the lake – Deb could give us the details on this.
The is the storm outlook from the SPC for today – The (yellow) Slight Risk covers areas west of a line from Holland to Traverse City…also Eastern Wisconsin, a large portion of Illinois, a small part of NW Indiana and parts of Upper Michigan. SPC has a 15% chance of a severe report within 25 miles of a given point in the Slight Risk Area. Maybe a quarter inch of rain between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo unless you get under a storm passing through.
Hot and humid weather will continue today, although temperatures and heat index values will be slightly less oppressive than they were Saturday. Showers and thunderstorms are possible today and tonight. Some of these storms could become severe with damaging winds and could produce local nuisance flooding. After a slightly cooler Monday, hot and humid conditions return with an increased chance for showers and thunderstorms on the 4th of July and again towards the end of the week.
Usual joke…breezy with 37 rain drops on the driveway.
Short but sweet! 😮
Good to see you on here.
Saw a few bolts of lightning, heard some thunder, had a brief 10 second wind gust, 23 drops of rain, and it’s done. Everything wrapped right around us. Again.
One day in the 80s and more heat !!! Bring on more 90s and the tally keeps going up !!
I will have to eat my words on that line of storms. Not sure how much rain I got yet BUT did have a roll cloud and gust front come thru and with that it became very windy and then a quick wind and rain squall pasted thru. No damage that I can see here but it did get windy. The sky is already clearing here and the temperature fell from 91 down to 74.

I haven’t heard the lovely sound of thunder in ages! Got a little bit of noise a few minutes ago but seems to be movin’ on now :/ I don’t like the idea of a lot of damage, but do like a good thunderboomer.
With that whole line coming in there is one break in the line and that is the area that is heading in my area.

Great call Slim – the mini heat wave lasted 3 days and it is over on Monday. NWS says high of 83 degrees on Monday which is NORMAL! Then a couple warm days and a cool down! I love it!
Thank you. 3 days is what this looked liked from the very start. The one item that made this stand out was the very high dew points and that is what helped the record warm minimum low of 78° other that that the highs were 91, 94 and 94.

Thunderstorm watch just issued. Sit back and watch it fall apart!
Not nearly as mild today as it was Fri/Sat. A much appreciated short term thaw. Storms?…honestly?…let’s grasp reality and simply remove the word from the language around here.
Aha! So this is where most of the old Bill’s weather blog people have come to! Thanks to Jack-of-all-trades for showing me this place! I’m an old Bill’s Blog oldie too! 🙂 I actually love this hot weather, just don’t like the high humidity.
Welcome to the party, Marti!
Thank you Mark! 🙂
98* with a heat index of 110* yesterday out at thee YARDofBRICKS not a bad yard reading now all eys focus on today we maybe getting some severe storms this evening stay tuned.. INDY!
I hope so. We should could use some soakers.
Yesterday was one for the record books. GR, Lansing, and KaZoo all set records for warmest minimum temperatures.
And for good measure, Alpena set a record high of 99°.
Alpena 99° had the state high yesterday and Traverse City was 98. Both Alpena and Traverse City get some good down slopping with a SW wind and both locations can very hot at those times.

Bring it!

There are indications that mid July and more so August could be below average temperature wise,
Slim
I absolutely love it! Give me below normal temps anytime, especially in the winter!
I am so with you my friend on this :)…… I loathe this weather… high heat one thing, but add this crap humidity and I am so over it. I believe the only ones who likes this stuff have either pool or lake access if not… they are just plain weird LOL :).
🙂 Guess I’m weird then! I don’t have a pool and don’t live near a lake! I don’t have a car so have to walk or bus ride somewhere. I’m a senior citizen, so don’t lay out and sunbathe anymore either. I’d just rather have it hot than arctic temperatures!!
Bless your heart :)…. Good for you! A couple of days I am okay with it but when it gets to the point I can’t even open the windows at night… Well… I get grumpy… :).
Noooooo! I like it hot in the summer, the way it’s supposed to be (except for high humidities). This summer (finally) is turning out to be like the summers I remember while growing up (1950’s and 60’s).
