Thankfully all the dumbed-down political ads will disappear after today and we can now expect a barrage of Christmas advertising to take their place. In my opinion we should not have to see all the Christmas ads until around Thanksgiving.
I have strong opinions on the ballot proposals as do many others, however I only discuss them with my wife as we mulled them over this year. This is not a political blog and I intend to keep it that way. It is predicted there will be a strong voter turn out this year compared to other midterm elections especially with the proposals our state has on the ballot. It will be interesting how proposal one turns out.
We will have windy conditions today with scattered showers. Wind gusts to around 40 mph are expected which should knock the rest of the leaves off the trees before we have our first snows of the season. We picked up .52 of an inch of rain here in Otsego since midnight.
With the exception of Thursday our unsettled weather pattern will continue right on through at least early next week with rain and snow showers. Temperatures will be 15° or better below normal for early November.
Below is the NWS graphic for first accumulating snows for November.
On a side note: I was cleaning my outdoor fish pond for the last time before covering it for the winter. The pond holds only a couple hundred gallons of water – the fish go dormant when it is cold. There were at least six frogs still active, they generally disappear in late October. For the first time in all the years I have had the pond I found a large crayfish in with the frogs and fish. Don’t know how it found its way in there – it was an interesting find. Crayfish are good eating, however one needs a whole bunch of them to make a meal.
Smoke them if you got them Michigan! INDYDOG14!!
Well there may be white in the forecast, but it would appear Michigan is going green at the polls.
Go Green!
Wow a high of 30* degrees on Monday that’s January numbers down right cold for early November!! INDY!
@ Indy. Indy asked the question as to how many warm summers were followed by a cold winter. Sorry to say Indy not that many. One year that stands out is 1919 that year had a warm summer (June 74.2° July 75.7° August 69.8°) then a cold winter (December 1919 21.1° January 1920 16.0° and February 21.3°) There have been more years that had a warm/hot summer month with the next winter having a cold winter month but not that many with a whole season swing.
Slim
Wow maybe that trend is turning it’s Al ready cold outside it has been since October 14th. Love the thoughts thanks uncle Slim! INDYDOG14!!
Unfortunately the time period you are referring to, mid October till now, does not fall into Winter as it is Fall yet. We are to far away from Winter yet to have any idea what may or may not happen.
Just like in April when u all say is going to be a hot summer so what’s the difference then?? Even know April was a cold month this spring lol! INDYDOG14!!
Cant speak for everyone else, but I never try and make forecasts for the future, let alone months out. I will only talk about what has happened, not what may or may not happen. I will guess on things based on the past, for example the multi year pattern we have been in for a long time. Odds are that will not change until some major event. Looking at the past several years, and Slim will confirm this, we have been getting the majority of our snow in December, then by January everything melts and we’re having thunderstorms. If I had to put money down, I’d say close to the same will happen this go around.
Thanks I will keep this post in mind come March Arpil and May .. Get outside and enjoy the some winter weather this weekend! INDY!!
Sorry, I work all weekend. And rain mixed with slop is not my idea of something to enjoy. Might as well go outside right now then with 30 mph winds and soaking rains.
Wow 3 great chances of snow coming especially Next Tuesday maybe our first shots for advisories for west Michigan snow shovel is out rakes are put away!! 15-17 degrees below normal is coming! Rocky fire up the snow blower! INDY!!
Just heard from my better half. She just voted. She was in line for 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Ouch! We are about to head there now. Hope they have free wi-if! Ha
She said it was worth the wait. It’s at our son’s school so he had the day off. She took him along to give him his first civics class. He got a sticker too.
I just voted… took about 20 mins. Mark, I did that with our kiddos, too for different elections. We were approached, one year, by local paper to use our photo (turning in our ballot from across the room). Gotta love the stickers!!!
Marijuana and a new governor will bring the people out. Wish I could vote more then once today …INDY!
Well I agree with you there. Now we wait to see if Michigan does indeed go green……
I’m thinking it will pass higher then any other proposal! Proposal 1 that is! INDY!
Back already! Took longer to fill out the ballot than it did to wait! We do live in a rural area though, so not as many people. Our youngest son who recently turned 18 got to vote for the first time today!
We vote in Otsego Township – we were in and out within 15 minutes.
Uncle Slim Jim open your basement up and bring out how many above normal Summers have GR have followed by below normal Winters we are well on our way to a below normal Winter last day it was 60′ degrees was October 14th long time ago!! Thanks INDYDOG14!!
And to find the last time we had an above average day, you would have to go all the way back to yesterday.

Main Election day 2018. Note I said main election as we have several elections thru the year. Yes most of the sick ads will be gone by tomorrow (some will survive and still play for a few more days}
On the weather front I recorded 0.69″ of rain and have a temperature here on 49° it is somewhat windy here and it has gotten darker here in the last few minutes. I would like to add is the odd thing about “averages” my birthday happens to be November 7th and that is the “average” 1st day of 0.1″ of snow fall at Grand Rapids. In my life time it has snowed more then that 0.1″ 6 times on my birthday(at Grand Rapids and fell before I moved here) There have only been two times with snow on the ground on my birthday 1991 here in Grand Rapids and in 1966 in Bay City.
Slim
Clearly there will be strong voter turnout this year and it is obvious why we will be seeing record mid term voter turnout!
Clearly the above normal temp pattern is over! Most of October was below normal and what happened to the above normal temp outlook for November? Check out this incredible pool of cold air! Bring it!

I’ve been in line since 6:45. I am happy to report that there are more people here this morning than there were two years ago.
To my fellow weather-loving Americans: HAVE A GREAT DAY!
