Up at Sunrise this morning – I love listening to the birds in the early morning as they are getting up especially the Mourning doves. Mourning Doves perch on telephone wires and forage for seeds on the ground; their flight is fast and bullet straight. Their soft, drawn-out calls sound like laments. When taking off, their wings make a sharp whistling or whinnying. Mourning Doves are the most frequently hunted species in North America though like pigeons they don’t have a lot of meat on them.
We love our birds here on the outskirts of Otsego, we feed them rather than them feeding us. We have several feeders around the yard for the birds. I also keep corn out for the squirrels. We have some fat possums and raccoons which come out at night to eat the cat food set out for the cats. Sometimes we surprise each other when we come up the steps to go inside. I keep telling my wife one of these days a possum and racoon will come trotting in when she lets the cats in at night.
Sunrise is at 6:05, sunset 9:20 (for Otsego). We will gain another six minutes of daylight until the summer solstice which is on the 21st when the sun reaches its highest point in the sky.
Dry and warmer weather is expected today as the stationary front which persisted over the weekend just south of Michigan sinks farther south. However considerable clouds will linger south of Interstate 96.
Another frontal boundary will approach from the west on Tuesday and bring another chance of showers and storms, mainly inland from Lake Michigan. After that the remainder of the week looks predominately dry and warm.
Great to see Barry having a fun party 2 kegs thats a lot of Sprites … We where up in Lkview Michigan yesterday mostly sunny sky’s there not a bad Sunday .. all eyes on this up coming week we could be seeing temps low 90’s hotter them May and very humid also get ready now! I hope the heat brings some good boomers .. INDY!
So glad to see the sun after yesterday’s drizzle-fest. We received 1.37″ Friday-into-Saturday; and another quarter-inch yesterday
It is certainly nice to see the sun.
I wish I could get rid of the chipmunks eating ALL of my strawberries. Any suggestions out there? We were out by our fire pit and one ran right between my feet!!! Ugh!!!!
A small live trap and relocation?? I tried a couple of those ultrasonic pest repellers they claim will work – and it did. For a few days until my moles grew accustomed to the sound and vibration 🙁
Pellet Rifles work perfectly.
The sun is nice after a 100% cloudy and cold weekend. There was a sharp cut off on the rain amounts as the airport reported 0.92″ of rain and here at my house it was just 0.26″ of rain.

I wouldn’t call it a cold weekend, in fact it was near perfect for our huge party Saturday night. It never rained on us at all, and with the high humidity, 70 degrees was just perfect. We set off about 50 sky lanterns and a pile of firework after it was dark, emptied 2 kegs, and we’re thankful it wasn’t 90 degrees out!
👍
What a beautiful morning!! MV I hope you never get a critter in your house. Many years ago on the other side of the state my Grandpa fed the squirrels. One day apparently when he went out the back door to the porch one came in and ran down the basement stairs. He did not know this. My Grandma called my Mom the next morning to tell her of all the noise coming from down there. We went over there and my Mom called someone to get rid of it. It was Sunday and the guy said he would only come if he could get someone to come with him. He said as he would go down the stairs the squirrel most likely would jump on his back so another person would get it. The got him in minutes but Grandma’s basement was a mess. The squirrel had fun tipping over a lot of her canning jars.
Even getting a bird in the house can be a big problem. Many years ago I was at the doctors and my youngest son called (he had to call the doctors office as this was in the days before cell phones) and reported that there was a bird in the house. I had to come home (not feeling well) and find a way to get the bird out of the house. As my son had “trapped” the bird in one of the back bedrooms I had to take one of the windows out and let the bird fly out the window. I hope to never have that happen again. Not sure how the bird got in the house.

Fishing nets work well for birds; and bats. I used to live in a house which bats would get into the house from the attic – yeah – lots of fun there. I could turn on the lights and let them settle then slap a net over them then let them go outside…
