We have now gone 17 days with only .17 of an inch of rain in the Otsego area. Yesterday we had a high temperature of 75° and a low of 45.5°.
Today we have another sunny day in store with high temperatures in the mid-70s thanks to an area of high pressure over the state. Our next chance of rain comes Thursday night into Saturday. Temperatures will drop into the 60s for highs over the weekends.

Weather History
1946: There was an early taste of autumn as Grand Rapids fell to 32 degrees for its earliest freeze on record.
On September 3, 2011, in the late afternoon and evening, several thunderstorms fired up ahead of a cold front draped across lower Michigan. Ahead of the cold front temperatures soared into the 90s with heat indices near 100 degrees. The areas hardest hit with strong winds and hail were along I-94 from Ann Arbor to downtown Detroit including River Rouge where festival tents were blown down injuring about 10 people and at the University of Michigan where the football game was ended early due to the thunderstorms. Another hard-hit area was from Huntington Woods to Madison Heights where winds were estimated up to 75 mph with numerous downed trees. About 100,000 DTE customers lost power due to the storms.
Also on September 3, 1953, the temperature rose to 100 degrees in Detroit, which is the record high for the day. This also marks the sixth day in a row (August 29-September 3) of record daily high temperatures!

Forecast Discussion
- Sunshine Continues Plenty of sunshine is expected Tuesday and Wednesday as high pressure and upper-level ridging drive our forecast. BUFKIT cross sections show no significant moisture at any level keeping generally sunny skies. Winds will be light with a generally southerly direction as return flow given we sit on the western side of the high with high resolution model guidance showing a lake breeze developing each day. Highs today will be similar to Monday, climbing to near 80 by Wednesday as warm air advection takes hold. - Very warm Thursday then showers, storms Thurs night/Friday Preceding the arrival/amplification of an upper trough approaching from the northwest we get a rather warm day Thursday with highs in the mid 80s thanks to southerly flow and a H8 thermal ridge around 16C. The sfc cold front associated with the incoming digging trough slowly crosses lwr MI on Thursday night and Friday bringing a high likelihood of showers and t-storms with pops on the order of 60 to 80 percent. Deep layer shear will be sufficient for some stronger storms (over 30 kts) although instability is questionable given nighttime/morning timing of the frontal passage. However if the frontal timing slows and we see some sfc-based instability build on Friday before its passage then that may be something to watch (mainly south and east of GRR). - Cool, showery, breezy for next weekend Guidance remains locked-in on a deep upper trough being carved out over the GrtLks Region for next weekend. That equates to much below normal temperatures, scattered to numerous showers, and gusty winds. A few thunderstorms and waterspouts are also possible considering the lake-induced instability that will be present due to Delta Ts near 20C. High temperatures of only 60 to 65 are expected with considerable cloudiness and some northern locations may struggle to reach 60. Cluster analysis for next Monday shows considerable variance regarding the position/depth of the upper trough. Thus confidence is low at this time as to how quick it gets booted out (but that`s a fairly normal fcst challenge with a closed upper low at longer ranges).
Bring on some rain and keep this cool summer rocking and rolling baby! I love it!

The overnight low and current temperature is 48 degrees. The record low of 32 for today is the earliest first 32 day at Grand Rapids. The forecast is hinting at there being 3 days in a row with highs in the 60’s in looking at past September’s it is not uncommon for there to be 3 days or so of highs in the 60 in early September. It is after all early fall.
