2014: Arctic air prevails, with high temperatures in the teens and heavy lake-effect snow. Nearly 10 inches of snow fall at Grand Rapids, contributing to a record November total of 31 inches.

NWS Forecast
Forecast Discussion
- Rain Developing Late Today A strong southern stream wave will push a surface low north from Oklahoma today to Minnesota Tuesday. A band of rain will develop southeast of the low near the warm front as isentropic lift strengthens and condensation pressure deficits fall to less than 10 mb. Models have been consistent in showing this wave for several days as it moves north and phases with a northern stream upper low. For today, rain will move into the cwa from the southwest late this afternoon and move across the entire cwa through early evening. After a brief lull around midnight, more rain will develop late tonight as the occluded front moves toward the cwa and continue Tuesday before diminishing late in the day. - Continued Unsettled and Turning Cooler Mid to Late Week The same fcst challenges still exist with the mid to late week system. While guidance has been consistent in carving out a deep upper trough over the GrtLks Rgn by Thursday, they still differ on the evolution/placement of the main upper low center and resultant sfc cyclogenesis and thermal profiles. Thus still low confidence in potential fcst outcomes. The more northern placement of the GFS near Sault Ste Marie (then south from there) ends up sending colder H8 air in from the west. This results in lake enhanced rain and snow showers with some light/slushy accumulations possible inland from the milder Lk MI shoreline on Wednesday night into Thursday (favoring higher elevations up north as well as grass/fields vs roads). The more eastern placement of the ECMWF in the vicinity of Lk Erie meanwhile presents the (low probability) scenario for some synoptic wet/slushy snow accumulations over south central and southeast Lwr MI on Wednesday night, before warmer air wraps in around the the nrn side of the system from the east and changes things back to all rain for Thursday. The colder Irish Hills would probably be most favored for some accums in this (unlikely) scenario, but a few ensemble members still suggest several inches possible. Otherwise showery/cool weather persisting through at least Saturday with highs in the 40s until the upper trough finally lifts out later in the weekend.
