Yesterday’s storm was the worst we have seen in Otsego over the last few years. I live on a gravel road one block off M89 in the woods. The south side of our road saw multiple tree tops sheared off while my side only lost a few small branches. The woods in my backyard and the neighbors on the north side saw little or no damage. My neighbor across the street had her power mast torn from her house and some roof damage to contend with as do the neighbors a couple of houses down. Of course, the power went out for the second time this summer and was off through most of the night. Big hats off to the Consumer crews.
I walked the neighborhood taking photos and talking to folks:

80 with low humidity, mix of sun and clouds, and a nice breeze. Can’t ask for a much nicer day.
I was out and about this afternoon. Lots of tree damage in this area.
The clouds have really stuck around today. This has been one of the cloudiest summers I remember (will be interesting to see the cloud cover stats for GR summer in a couple days). This spring was also the cloudiest spring on record
Interesting the difference from Grand Rapids to Lansing. Seems to be a lot more sunny over this way than GR. That’s often the case in the winter to with LE clouds. Overall today has been fairly sunny over here at my house. One dark cloud produced a brief shower but then the sun was out afterward.
Yikes it’s hot down in Nevada where my grandpa lives near Las Vegas is supposed to be above 110 degrees. I don’t care what people say about low humidity, it’s still hot. I’d still much rather get the tropical airmass of Florida with daily rain chances that hot and dry. I may be moving to Florida next year. Haven’t decided yet. My sister lives in Tampa and it would be nice to be closer to family. I would be ok with Orlando too.
Check out all the yellow tint on on trees already early color tour this year stay tuned .. INDY
Low temps in the 50’s the next few nights! Rock n roll will never die!
What a summer! Looks like GR will end with a warm meteorological summer once again. Even warmer outside of the “cool bubble” that is NWS GR. Haven’t had a cool month since April!
We had .40 of an inch of rain, which brings us to 6.99 inches for the month. Of course, the big story was the wind damage around the area. Our high for yesterday was 86 and the low was 70.
Yesterday was a very wet day indeed here in Grand Rapids the official amount of rain fall was 0.94” Here at in MBY I had 0.84” The official two-day total was 1.91 here in MBY the two day total was 1.92” The official H/L yesterday at Grand Rapids was 84/67 there was a reported 21% of possible sunshine. The highest wind gust was 58MPH at Holland they reported a wind gust of 66 MPH. The official overnight low was 68 here in MBY the overnight low was 66. At this time with clear skies it is 69 here. For today the record high of 95 was set way back in 1899 and the record low of 39 was set in 1976 that 39 is the coldest low at Grand Rapids for the month of August.

Wow I can not imagine it reaching 39 degrees in late August. Even a low of 50 feels chilly :O
There was a good amount of trees down in your area MV. Here in my area I only seen one large branch down from the wind. The biggest issue in my area was the flooding and that was with a rain storm that popped up almost overhead before the line of storms moved thru. I recorded 0.55″ of rain in less than 20 minutes in one of the heaviest rain showers I have ever seen.

I saw a NWS storm report out of Otsego. I assume that was you, MV.
Six figure power outages. Tropical storm force winds throughout lower Michigan. Hurricane force winds just south of the border. Unconfirmed tornado in Macomb county. That was a big time storm.
I’ve contributed a storm report I believe on every severe weather day so far this summer. Always fun helping the NWS with reports.
I assume the GR temps for August will end up as another month with near normal temps! All the talk about a hot summer and month after month we end up with near normal temps! How is that possible?
Wow and what a storm! For me it was mainly a heavy rain event! 2 day total of 3.6 inches!! Incredible! Now get ready for more below normal temps!
Wow! Lots of damage near you MV. I can’t believe we have over 600,000 customers statewide with no power. That’s a huge number. I’m sure out of state crews are on there way to help out
