The GFS is showing only the possibility of (perhaps) a quarter inch of rain through the rest of the week which is not much considering the hot air in place drying things up. Like others here on the blog I have to much invested in the landscape to let it go dry and dormant. I have a well so I don’t have to pay the city to dump chlorinated and fluoridated water on my lawn, flowers and vegetables. Though with having to run the pump and air conditioners Consumers Power is loving it. Next weeks models are showing more rain (around and inch) so conditions should improve. The GFS is also showing temperatures normalizing after the 17th as we begin the second half of summer. August predictions are for a cooler pool of air developing in the Midwest so we may see near normal conditions. I am not seeing any snow or frost in the near term 🙂
A cold front was moving south across Lower Michigan early this morning and was located near US-10. A couple of light showers were noted near the front but were diminishing quickly. For all intents and purposes, this front will move through dry this morning leading to a mostly sunny day. Despite highs near 90, the air won`t feel as oppressive due to dew points falling into the lower 50s.
High pressure over Ontario coupled with upper ridging will produce dry weather through Thursday. Temperatures will top out in the upper 80s each day but humidity will remain in check thanks to dew points in the 50s.

Great summer weather. We are now 1/3rd of the way thru July and so far it has been sunny (but very dry) and very warm. The Average high so far is 89.0° the average low so far is 64.7° the mean is a very warm 76.8° The high for the month so far is 94 on the 1st and 4th the low so far is 54° on the 7th there has only been 0.12” of rain so it is becoming very dry. And there have been no thunderstorms this month. And this is after only 4 reports of thunder in June so we have been storm free so far this summer in Grand Rapids.
Slim
What no SNOW in August? Bring on the near to below normal temps!
I see that GR did not hit 90 degrees yesterday! Imagine that!
I really don’t need to imagine it because the heat index was 95 here, and that’s the only thing that counts for me because that is what I could actually feel.
Maybe not at the airport, but other areas did. Then again, no one lives at the airport and 89° feels no different than 90°.
