I was out and about yesterday morning when the roads were a sloppy mess. I generally run my errands before noon when the stores aren’t as full of people as they tend to be after lunch. One of the purchases I made was $13.13 and being the 13th the clerk and I raised our eyebrows – I told the clerk I choose to take it as a good omen.
I cleaned up the snow at my house and my mother-in-laws yesterday – snow measurements yielded between 5 and 6 inches minus the icy crust below. After a low of 15.9° at 10pm last night we have slowly risen to a current temp of 23.9° at 7am.
Our weather should be uneventful over the next several days until midweek next week. Temps will rise to around 40 today with light rain developing late afternoon into the evening turning to light snow showers with little or no accumulations over night.
Get ready – possible major snowstorm the middle of next week! Bring it!
Possible winter storm I like it …INDY!!
I hear we are going to enjoy a nice sunny weekend!! 🙂
Highs in the 20’s tommorow with 30mph wnds will feel like a shock compared to today…INDY..
Made it up to 45 here this afternoon. Our 3 inches might be 1 inch by tomorrow.
Was surprised to see how much snow has melted today.. Seeing grass in the yard again ..
I went to Zeeland today and was surprised that they had less snow than I do here.
There is quite a drop off in just a 5 or 6 mile drive. Usually it’s the other way around, but we have not had much lake effect this .winter. The higher winds have blown it all further inland.
Just drove my Silverado through a car wash long line looks beautiful out in the sun and snow trucks love this kind of weather…INDY..
Time to put a plow on it!!!
Thinking about it …. INDY!!
Well, at least my driveway is ice and snow free.
Short on snow? Consider yourself fortunate, as many around West MI (Ada) will have snow on the ground through March. The only upside is that 8 weeks of “real world” winter remain before us.
My eyes see 40’s today and mid to up 30’s starting around Wednesday next week! Plenty of good melting weather coming up with no snow storms in sight! Let’s get that early SPRING going!!

I had a few minutes, so I decided to take some measurements around the house. While some claim to have snow piled up a foot or two deep, not so much here.
west side of the house:

North side of the house:

Deck on the East side:

A hair over to a hair under 3 inches everywhere I checked. Of course flip the ruler over and it becomes 9 inches.
Big difference between Zeeland and GR. Here on the northwest side of GR the snow depth is between 8 and 11 inches with a mean of 9 inches in fact 8 inches is the official depth reported at GRR it will go down today due to the melting taking place.

I’ve noticed the further you go towards the lake the less snow. Muskegon is way under their average snowfall, and Holland is down as well.
That’s about the same as here.
Still sitting around 11 inches of snow on the ground out at the YARDofBRICKS sure is going to take more then one day in the mid 30’s to melt away with that being said I know it’s hard for some to take in if only everwhere was pitcher of a blowing filed with no snow thats always is on a go lol… After today with highs only in the mid 20’s far as the eye can see it maybe sticking around on the ground for awhile longer… INDY..
What a great week of winter weather! More snow in snow country tonight! I am off to the slopes again! Heaven on Earth baby!
The temperature here is now up to 35. Today should melt some of the snow on the ground and we should stay on the cold side for the rest of February but see the next post below.

Long Range MJO Forecast Points To Early Spring
The latest MJO long-range forecast points to a mild early spring pattern, The spring patter will be driven by the MJO phases. The reason why is because the stratosphere has gone through a rapidly cooling phase which will force the troposphere Polar Vortex to consolidate and lift north. So that will take the Polar jet stream north as well. So with that forcing mechanism leaving the playing field, the next forcing mechanism will be from the tropical forcing.
The MJO forecast takes us through phases 8 through phase 3 for the rest of February into early March. These are cold and active phases in the tropical forcing so the potential remains for a weather pattern through the end of the month for cold shots of Polar air and some winter storm threats. Expect that theme to evolve through the middle of March with waves of cold and warm air masses battling back and forth.
What the MJO forecast hints at as we move through early March into the middle of the month, the cold phases will be weaker and exit quicker while the warm phases gain more strength.
The MJO phases 4 and 5 in March and April are not aggressively warm signals but do point to a ridge over the Southeast. This still leaves open the potential for some Polar air masses to invade and active, wet weather pattern to set up due to the thermal gradient.
So there are sings Spring is not far off and the potential for winter weather events will steadily decline after February 20th.

Thanks for confirming my assessment of cold and snow at least through the 1st or second week of March! A lot of winter yet to come as the MJO confirms!
Tomorrow will mark one month of accumulating snow on the ground out at thee YARDofBRICKS NE GR let’s keep the ground full of snow to April ..INDY!!
That’s actually pretty sad as a normal Winter will easily have snow cover from mid December into March. For the West side here, it has been about 1 week with solid snow cover. Here’s the pic I posted a week ago showing our green grass:

Seeing low to mid 20’s as far as the eye can see coming up we can’t forget the on and off snow tonight Saturday night into Sunday and Tuesday into Wednesday for being mid February how could that be sounds like a winter forcast to me..Happy Valentine’s day to all the lady bloggers snow and cold is in the air with a side of love..INDY…
Yes an inch here and an inch there will all help to add up to above normal snowfall for the season! Bring it!
4 to 8 more inches for snow country! The snow just keeps coming and despite some of the warm weather rhetoric there is no change in sight! On the contrary the cpc shows below normal temps at least through the first week of March, the teleconnectors are all trending towards cold and the MJO has transitioned into the cold phase and should last 3 to 5 weeks! Incredible!

Matt Kirkwood wood tv 8 called this out back in December he nailed it ..Cold and snowy pattern into March remember ….INDY..
You know it and when he made this prediction the warm weather fanatics said no way and that he has a cold weather bias! All the facts are in and these facts are indisputable!
Good call!
Here is his exact quote back in December:
Interestingly enough, it appears as soon as we flip the calendar to January and the new year, we will begin to see changes to the weather pattern.
https://www.woodtv.com/weather/snow-conditions/snow-conditions-report-dec-27-2018/1676462051
Fact is when we “flipped” the calendar to January, nothing happened till the final week of the month.
Breaking news>>>>all of the teleconnectors are trending towards plenty of cold and snow for at least the rest of this month. The snow train will begin again next week! Get ready to rock n roll!
Nice snow map concerning g the storm!
