The winds are howling this morning and a few snowflakes have begun to fall bringing forth the promised snowfall for Southwest Michigan. We have one of those Amish designed electric fireplaces which may come in handy today and help with the Christmas mood. If you don’t have a fireplace you can use the one below and imagine Santa trying to get down its chimney without bursting into flame. I am told he is magic so I imagine he can skirt around it without a problem.
We had a high temp yesterday of 54° and .42 of an inch of rain. Temps started dropping after midnight to our current 23°. at 6 am.
There is a winter storm warning for Berrien and Cass counties for 5 to 10 inches of lake effect snow. This begins at 4 pm this afternoon to 4 pm tomorrow. We have a winter weather advisory in place for Mason, Oceana, Ottawa, Allegan, Van Buren, Muskegon, ( 3 to 6 inches) Lake, Newaygo, Barry, Kent and Kalamazoo counties (1 to 4 inches).
All in all, I would say today won’t be t-shirt weather If you happen to take a trip outside. Take care walking and driving – remember this is SW Michigan’s first meaningful snowfall this winter and we have to get used to it again.

It is finally looking like Christmas outside. I got up early to check the radar.. there was a nice band over my house at about 6:10 this morning that put down an inch or so. Roads are quite slippery- I saw a small crash earlier on Burton/Forest Hills. Otherwise the snow looks great!
Getting moderate to at times heavy snow fall here now. The ground is now covered and it looks like there is now at least 1” of snow on the ground. The current temperature here is now down to 21.

It was very windy around 4 a.m. as my insomnia had hold of me. I thought for sure the power would go out. I’m planning on getting out right after breakfast to walk the dog before it gets any colder. Hopefully everyone will be at their destinations before night falls and the snow picks up!

As Slim mentioned, yesterday was the 3rd warmest December 23 in history. With a low of only 38 the day came in at 19 degrees above average. Today will end up well above average as well because the high early this morning was around 45 degrees.

Not a whole lot other than wind here yet either. Like Slim reported, about the same in this area. 22 degrees, light snow, and only a dusting so far. With Sunday’s forecast of 40 degrees looks like whatever we might get will melt already.

Yesterdays official high of 53 (I had a high of 54 here at my house) was the 3rd warmest day of record at Grand Rapids for any December 23rd The high tied 1979 and 1957 for 3rd place. The record high of 60 was recorded in 2015 and in 2nd place is a high of 57 set 1982 and 1941. There was around a 0.25” of rain fall late yesterday and overnight. Currently light snow if falling but so far just a dusting here at my house. The current temperature is 22.
