We picked up .02 of an inch of rain yesterday morning – most areas between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo picked up a trace to a couple hundredths of an inch. I had to add cold water to my gold fish pond to keep them cool because of the excessive heat we have had. They are about eight inches long. Gold fish are fairly long lived if you take care of them and can get over a foot long. We used to have Koi but they are very picky about their water conditions and the pond has to be keep crystal clear. The raccoons like to try to get the fish but in all the years I have had the pond they have not been successful. This year we have a momma coon with three youngsters which come up to the house to eat the cat food we have set out.
Looking at the GFS this morning it shows we could get an a half to an inch of rain this week, the GEFS is showing similar results. The NAM is giving us around a .15 to a quarter inch through Wednesday. Here in Otsego we have picked up less than half an inch thus far this month. We have about a 20% chance of rain today and tonight with a 40% chance tomorrow and tomorrow night.
Coverage of storms is expected to increase late tonight into Monday as cold front pushes through. Severe potential is marginal with only 20 to 25 knots of deep layer shear. The timing of the front suggests that the stronger storms will be across SE Lower Michigan where the front will be in the afternoon at the time of peak heating, having crossed western Lower Michigan by noon. The GFS is only giving us an inch or less of rain through the rest of the month so consider yourself lucky should you get a slow moving storm in your area.
We do need rain but I sure don’t want winter to start in August! 😮
It is looking better and better!

Hey GR, send some of that rain this way 😁
Wood Weather Dept just “called it”…summer 2018 is over. Hot and humid summer weather is now only a hope for 2019. Very glad we received a little bit this year, before our Southern Arctic location claims it’s dominance. Coats required after dinner from this point on. Storm proof as always.
+ 100 million!
Hey MV, the weather conditions/forecast above now coincides with my current location. Nice work on this feature and the whole website.
#highfive
It would be nice to see some rain. I have had no rain here either. I am looking forward to the cooler temps. I don’t want to complain about the weather, we have no control over it and we can’t change it. It is already warm and muggy here today. I noticed yesterday around 6 or 7 PM the clouds cleared out and the sun came out. It actually felt great outside like the humidity had dropped.
Here at my house I did not receive any rain yesterday and I have only had 0.12″ of rain so far this month. At the Airport it is not much better just 0.14″ there so far this month.
Slim
A friend about 2 miles away got a nice downpour yesterday, but we only got sprinkles. 🤨
I’ve had to do the same thing with our little fish pond, adding cold water so they don’t boil away in this extended heat we’ve had. Also have used way more algae control than ever before because it just loves to bloom in hot sunny weather. It’s been a battle this year keeping the water clear.
One thing about heat and drought, it tends to breed more heat and drought. Most years I remember being hot and dry through July end up being just scorching through August into September.
