Yesterday we had a high of 51° and a low of 24°. Snow showers can be expected across the area today. 1 to 3 inches of snow accumulation is likely across Central Lower Michigan, with an inch or less on grassy surfaces elsewhere before tapering off later today. It will be blustery with wind gusts up to 40 mph expected. Things will quiet down for much of the week, and no major systems are expected through Friday. Temps will warm up late in the week.
Weather History
1901: A tornado killed one person and injured four others in Kalamazoo County as it moved from Vicksburg to Scott.
1904: Tornadoes hit Muskegon and Grand Rapids. In Muskegon, five homes were unroofed or torn apart on the lakefront at Harrison Street. In Grand Rapids, ten people were injured as the tornado damaged a church and several barns.
On March 24, 1965, Flint set a record low with -7. Three days later in 1965 Flint fell to -2. These two dates are the latest in a year that Flint has recorded below zero temperatures.
Forecast Discussion
- Windy With Snow Showers Today Lake enhanced snow showers will continue to develop today as a strong low pressure system moves slowly east across far northern lower MI. H8 temps will fall to -8 to -9 C with deeper moisture in place with the upper trough axis overhead. Additional snow accumulations of around one to three inches are forecast for areas where the winter wx advisory continues in effect. Winds will continue to gust mostly in the 30 to 40 mph range today and this in conjunction with the wet snow up north may result in isolated power outages. - Tranquil And Cool Weather Tonight Through Midweek A consensus of latest medium range guidance and ensembles continues to suggest that a cool but tranquil wx pattern will take hold tonight through midweek with high temps mainly in the upper 30s to lower 40s and mins mostly in the 20s but with some upper teens readings across our northern fcst area. - Moderating Temperatures Late This Week and Weekend The upper level pattern will become more zonal late in the week and next weekend with most of our area into the warm sector/southerly to southwesterly flow by Saturday. As such high temps by then should reach into the 60s across our southern fcst area while clouds and some rain showers will likely keep high temps in the 50s up north.
