Mark thought it would be a good idea to recycle my Boring post from last week, however as with any weather pattern the determination of blah or boring can mean different things – the main point is that there is nothing to get excited about over the next week. Blah is used to refer to something that is boring or without meaningful content or used to refer to weather models which get us excited and then let us down the next day.
Yesterday the GFS was showing a snowstorm coming in around Christmas eve, this morning it is showing a rain snow event and as always tomorrow it will show something completely different. Such is the way of long range forecasting.
There is some excitement when the sun comes out for multiple days especially in December which is our cloudiest month of the year, however the snow on the ground will melt off and bring back the blah to the landscape. We had a snowy November – looking at the blah blah blah computer models December will be mainly blah compared to November. Below is the NWS snowfall totals thus far this season.
Many of us hope for a white Christmas, though, as Indy stated the models looking that far out change daily and their predictability is blah, thus any post I make this week could easily be blah, blah blah, cloudy – blah blah blah, chance of rain blah blah blah ad infinitum for the next couple weeks.
The bright spot for this week is the appearance of the sun for three days in a row and temperatures rising to above freezing. Normal temps are in the mid 30s for this time of year and they may be approaching the low 40s by weeks end. We had 10.3° this morning which is the coldest we have seen since last April. All the exciting weather today is in the Carolinas where there are winter storm warnings in place where a foot of snow may fall. Seems the Carolinas have seen all the exciting weather this year.
Can you say green Christmas. One thing i dont get is why Bill never post the ABOVE normal temp maps.
Let’s hope not!! I would love to see a white Christmas!!
DDDDDD…The JEM Long Range Model is Looking at a Big BIGLY SNOWSTORM .
Around January 21-24th 2019. Stay Cued for Updates……
Welcome back! Your snowstorm prediction is about right. 🙂
Funny how the warm weather fanatics keep talking about above normal temps and sun yet we continue to have below normal temps and above normal snowfall and the latest NWS discussion mentions snow multiple times for next week! Incredible!
We are about to go below average snowfall on the season.
Rocky better get that oil changed, gonna have to start driving to Canada again for real snow! Sure they have the man made fake stuff around here, because these places would go out of business without it!
Mookie’s right, with the current forecast for this week, we’ll be below average for season snowfall by this time next weekend!
Oh you’re talking about the two systems that MAY start as snow but transition to rain?? Good, we need some of that salt washed off the roads and a nice rain will do that!
Have to always watch out for Rocky’s spin!
Wow!!! Look at all that red WARMTH on these maps!! INCREDIBLE!!!!! That’s a bullseye right over Michigan!!

Those are some great looking maps!
I’m starting to wonder if Indy and Rocky are the same person! No snow on the ground and no snow in sight. How can that be in what is normally a very snowy month?
Yes another cloudy below normal temp day today! How is that possible? Yes we will be seeing at least 2 major snowstorms this month! Mark it down!
Sorry, nobody is “marking it down”. A third of December is already gone and you said we’d be buried in snow by now. We’ve hardly had 1 inch the whole month. Better luck next year.
Barry you are hopeless, Indy is right!
It’s amazing you have time to post so much. Better get outside and shovel all that snow piling up. Lol!
Lol !!!
You forget Barry, Rocky considers 2 inches of snow in one day a major snowstorm, so that may happen, but with high temps near 40 the rest of the month I’m not counting on it!
More great news, we haves reached the earliest sunset of the year! Starting tomorrow evening, we start gaining daylight in the evening again. Combined with the coming mild temps, Spring will not feel far away! Just what happened to all the tons of snow and snowstorms a select few were clamoring about for December? Incredible!
High temps above freezing and mostly above normal as far as the eyes can see!! Who knew?!?!!

Wait. is it December. Lol !!
Can’t complain when the sun comes out! And definitely can’t complain when you have a December that is below average in snowfall, and heading for a December that looks like it will end up way, way below average in snowfall. Who would have thought?
Good Sunday cold morning from thee YARDofBRICKS made it down to 13* degrees here early this morning last time we felt that kind of cold was way back in February great ice making temps ,Love the bla bla post MV my guess with no storms in sight we will have to read all about it thee 40*+ heat wave club will be in full force!! That said the last 3 months being below normal in temps and above normal snowfall coming off a blow torch of a summer it’s truly a understanding lol! The beat goes onnnn!!! It’s going to be a great Sunday today enjoy MV best and God bless!! INDY!
