The CPC maps are turning from red and orange to shades of blue which seems appropriate as we close the doors to summer and the hot humid air wafting up from the south. The GFS and CFSv2 models have been consistently guessing night time temps falling into the forties to upper 30s at night by the end of the month into the first days of October which will awaken the furnaces across the land.

We do have pleasant days as autumn approaches but 80s if any after Friday will be a fluke and I am not seeing it in the long range models. Never fear, we can still see some 70s though we are in the time of year when they will become few and far between.
The Autumnal equinox begins on Saturday when the sun begins to cross into the southern hemisphere and brings springtime to those south of the equator. Sunrise here is around 7:36 and Sunset is around 7:30 dependent on which side of the state you are in. By the end of October the sunrise sunset times are around 8:15 and 6:40 as we are losing three minutes a day of sun.
We have an enhanced risk of storms to the west in Wisconsin, southern Minnesota and northern Iowa today. North of Grand Rapids has a marginal risk. We picked up a quick .25 of an inch of rain around 2:45 this morning which was the first rain we have seen since September 3rd. This brings us to 2.71 inches for the month in Otsego.
We currently have a line of showers and storms from Grand Rapids to Detroit at 7am due to a warm front lifting to the north. We should see temperatures rise into the low to mid 80s today which may be our last gasp of summer-like weather and heat. Storms could redevelop later this afternoon along and south of I96, we will have to keep an eye on these for development of severe weather.
We should see mainly dry and breezy conditions for Friday with wind gust around 35 mph. This weekend we will see temps drop into the 40s at night with the possibility of frost north of US10. Daytime highs will struggle to reach 70° and 60° by midweek next week.
Last day of Summer, almost 5 a.m., and it’s 80 degrees outside yet??? I had to check another thermometer to believe what I was reading!
Refreshing temps headed our way!! 🙂
Who woudn’t want winter temps vs 90 degrees and humid? Give me cold all the time baby!
Goodbye 80’s and hello 50’s and then snow! Bring on WINTER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ridiculous! Man I hope this humidity doesn’t come back again in October, which is now just over a week away.
Lovely, heat index is over 90 AGAIN! Yuck.
Still looking like a fantastic WARM first half of Winter!!

Looks like most of the lake effect will be rain this winter. Lol !
In your dreams!
Super humid out this afternoon! I guess it’s only fitting that the last day or so of Summer ends with dew points around 70 since it seems like it’s been this way 90% of the Summer.
Highs in the 50’s next week wow! INDY!

Maybe next weekend, but overall a nice week coming up next week!
Local news said we received over 2″ of rain by noon. It poured until a little after 1pm, so I am interested to see how much we received.
I just heard Matt on WoodTV say we will have 50’s for highs next week. The sun is out here and the sky appears to be clearing. Now it is really going to warm up this afternoon.
ADA – 2.5 inches of rain as of noon 🙁
Slim, nice stats you posted yesterday on the May – September time frame. Those are some impressive #’s for how much heat we’ve had this year. Throw in the excessive humidity we’ve had for months now, this year will be one that will be remembered. Going to be a steamer of a day today as soon as the morning rains move out, still have the AC cranked. Hopefully the humidity will move out for a while next week.
We do too- it is just to humid out there.
What a difference from last year’s 90’s to 60″s this year at this time .. Glad I took out the air conditioners already.. Fall is here!! INDYDOG14!!
.
Here is the updated CPC guess for October

I woke last night to the sound of thunder
How far off I sat and wondered
Started hummin’ a song from 1962
Ain’t it funny how the night moves
When you just don’t seem to have as much to lose
Strange how the night moves
With autumn closin’ in
While it has been said before but Bob Seger is coming to Grand Rapids on November 21.

The start of his farewell tour. The tour is not completely scheduled yet. I think it’s a safe bet the final show(s) will be in The D.
