Above is the April climate wrap-up from the NWS – it speaks for itself.
Fun night with all the lightning and thunder going on and best of all we are seeing rain over most of the area. We have a nice gentle rain falling this morning (.32 since yesterday which is a 7am reading). My weather alert radio was going off quite often last night (its a good idea to have one, they have a battery backup should the power go off.) The noise they make would wake the dead.
The warm and unstable airmass will continue across the region through tonight. As a wave of low pressure tracks in from the southwest…there will be showers and thunderstorms around…especially tonight. The storm system pulls away from the area on Friday…taking the morning showers and thunderstorms with it. The start of the weekend is looking dry as high pressure moves in. Below is the SPC outlook for today.
We sort of missed the worst of the storms (I’m OK with that!) and received .53″ of rain since yesterday morning. I also noticed a possible side effect from the cold April: the Canadian Geese seem to have much smaller families this spring (which is a bonus) – I think they were unable to keep all of their dozen-or-so eggs warm enough to hatch?
The storms seemed to fizzle out. We had some heavy rain and lightning and thunder. Wind when the front came thru but none of it lasted long maybe 10 minutes. This morning it rained lightly and cleared and we had sunshine most of the day before it became cloudy.
Yes… a stormy night last night. Will we get some storms tonight since we didn’t really see the sun?
ADA – overnight rain showing 0.45, storm free.
Not much in the way of thunder here at my house last night (that is many times the case in the spring and early summer with a cold lake Michigan) But I did receive 0.46” of needed rain here.

Not much of a cool down in sight over the next 10 days on this morning’s GFS. Then, the heat builds back again.
