I look into my crystal ball to reason out a winter forecast from the spirits of the seasons and all I see are snowflakes swirling within – Oh darn, this is my snow globe. I guess that is as good of a guess as any. With all the strange things going on this year this winter could be one of apocalyptic snowfall as we have never seen before. Michigan used to be known as a winter wonderland though not so much in the past few years unless you live in the northern counties and the U.P..
My guesses the past couple of years have been the opposite of what actually happened, so I suppose if I predict a warm dry winter we will have wet heavy snowfall in depths to make it unmovable. If truth be told it is my thinking we will see a setup for a wetter than normal winter with rain snowline setup making more rain freezing or otherwise in the southern counties and normal to slightly above normal snowfall in the north. The worrisome unknown is which way will the wind blow when the Arctic expresses move across the lake. The past couple of years the cold air has come from the north which setup great snowfalls in the U.P. With the guesses of the jetstream setup this year we may see more northwesterly directions which could give greater snowfall along the western counties.
So, as I shake my snowglobe and whisper to Ullr the god of snow he is contained within unless I drop and break the globe – Ullr is a product of Norse mythology, he’s been dubbed the God of Snow, Patron Saint of Skiers, the son of Sif and stepson of Thor, the God of Thunder. Cold-loving, bow-wielding Ullr (pronounced Oool-er) is said to be an expert skater, skier and hunter who would glide around the world and cover the land with snow. I don’t suppose he would come to this side of the northern hemisphere as he was known to exist only in Scandinavia.
I remove my turban and put down the snowglobe to move back into the reality of Michigan weather knowing our guesses are generally good for only a few days out. The jetstream is a restless beast in the winter, who knows where and when it will move back and forth from north to south?
Today we will see lots of sun with highs in the low 50s. We stayed in the upper 30s to around 40° most of the day yesterday after dropping from a warm 75° late on the 10th. Chances of rain increase late tonight with rainfall amounts around a 10th of an inch. We have a current temperature of 26° a 6:30 am with clear skies.
Below are the highlights of the warm spell and wind speeds this week:

Were is winter ???? Looks like another mild winter on the way .. Lol
That’s an impressive list of records set! I would guess we have to be in the running for one of the more sunnier November’s as well. The past couple seems we had no sun at all.
The overnight low here was 28 with a heavy frost. At this time it is partly cloudy and 33.

28* degrees this morning out at thee YARDofBRICKS NE of GR the deer love theses cold mornings getting more more excited for opening day let’s see it we can get some snow showers also have a good Thursday …INDY
Apocalyptic Snow – sounds like an idea for a B-rate movie on SyFy. For the record, I enjoy those corny movies. I even got the kids into the Sharknado saga.
I does seem that we are due for a major winter snow event. Maybe this season? We will have wait and see.
Watch the Day After Tomorrow for a good snowpocalypse movie – I liked the Sharknado series also – very amusing.
One event that we are kind of overdue for is a major ice event. As for a snow event well that can happen even is a mild winter so we shall see how this all plays out. Remember as long as the lakes are warm and ice free as we get deeper into the fall and then winter season there is a chance of a bigger lake event.

So true!
