Temperature at 6am is 11.8° after a low of 3.9° at midnight. We have our fifth advisory in as many days and this one will include a sloppy mess over much of the area. This advisory lasts through 1am tomorrow morning which includes chances of rain, freezing rain and snow. If you check out the Point Forecasts on the front page you will see what is forecast for your area in regards to amounts of each. Below is the forecast for Otsego:
The point forecasts auto update every the hour and include most of the major cities in Michigan. This system is not going to be pleasant if you have to go out in it with over half an inch of cold rain mixing in and ice accumulations of around a tenth of an inch. High temps tomorrow will peak in the mid 30s before spiraling downward again by the end of the week. Below is the NAM forecast through 18z on Friday which is showing a snowy pattern setting up.
The GFS is trying to guess 15 inches of snow through February 3rd for Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids with more falling to the north however we may see a couple rain/snow events in between. I said back in December my main fear for this winter was the possibility of ice events which none of us want to see.
The Heavy Freezing Spray Warning for lake Michigan means heavy freezing spray is expected to rapidly accumulate on vessels. These conditions can be extremely hazardous to navigation. It is recommended that mariners not trained to operate in these conditions or vessels not properly equipped to do so…remain in port or avoid the warning area.
Moderate snow and 29f .. Would say around a half inch of new snow.
Big old dry slot over mid Michigan. Just got home from hockey practice. Roads are much better now than on the way there.
Very heavy precipitation moving in to your area check out radar …INDY!
I wonder if the kids will have snow or ice day tomorrow?
This afternoon I was out in Zeeland for pt and came out and my car was covered in ice. Roads were very slick going home.
We received a lot more freezing rain than they forecasted. My son left for work earlier and had to spend 10 minutes trying to scrape fairly thick ice off of his car.
9pm update Snowing very hard out at the YARDOFBRICKS NE GR. temp 25* feels like 20* stay tuned INDY !!

Check out wood tv 8 day forcast!! Wow can we say snow and cold ….INDY!!
Who would have thought?
A decent layer of ice on my car after work. Our daughter’s dance classes have been cancelled tonight. The boy’s hockey practice is still on. It will be interesting to see how many kids show up tonight.
Be safe tonight one good thing a lot of this frozen spray should be changing over to snow in yours and ours area over night…INDY!
I would imagine a nother snow day coming up for a lot of schools tomorrow ….Lot of evening events being cancel now…INDY!!
Ice day if anything. Our kids school just cancelled everything tonight due to the freezing rain.
Still have freezing drizzle falling. Glad were are back home..
Lots of slick roads …INDY..
Only snowed here about 5 minutes then went to all freezing rain. Went to Meijer in Hudsonville, and when we came out a half an hour later the parking lot was glazed over and we had to chisel the ice off our car. Easily a tenth of an inch already, but the roads back were just slushy. Don’t really like ice, but glad it will keep the snow totals way down. Temp was at 23, and still is, with rain/drizzle coming down.
Loving the snow falling out at thee YARDofBRICKS roads are really slippery so becareful lots of slide offs …INDY
You may be in that sweet spot Indy ..
Current condition Freezing rain and 24f.
Well I see that a good amount of back and forth is continuing on what the snow conditions have been in Northern Michigan. Well to start off all locations in Northern Michigan are at this time well below their average snow fall amounts Here is a chart as of this morning
https://www.weather.gov/apx/snowgraph_ytd
That said while their snow fall amounts are well below average at this point there still has been snow in Northern lower Michigan Traverse City has had many days in the city with no snow on the ground but Gaylord has had snow on the ground ever day in January with the most being 10” over at Alpena they too have had snow on the ground ever day this month with the most there also 10” The same is true at Boyne Fall and Kalkaska and at Sault Ste Marie they have had snow on the ground since November 11th I hope this helps clear up some of the confusion that seems to happen on here once and a while.
Slim
Just had some light snow here in Grand Rapids. Not much but there is a very light coating on everything. The temperature here is now at 24.4°
Slim
Terri Dabore Wood tv 8 new models coming in now saying all snow out of this storm for GR interesting…Let it snow let it snow!! INDY
Nope. Just came from the South side and it was all freezing rain/drizzle. Couldn’t keep it off the front windshield.
Seeing snow on radar storm starting early ? INDY!
The latest NAM is bullish on the snow! Sometimes the NAM has a hard time deciphering the rain snow line!

About 7-10 days ago, your links said GR would pick up 25″ of new snow by the beginning of February. Well, we got 3″ last week. I guess that means we should be expecting 22″ in the next 9 days? LOL
Funny that you should bring that up Mookie as on last nights weather over at WZZM that is what George Lessens claimed could happen in the next 7 days or so. Not saying I believe it but we shall see.

Boy, that’s a tight degradation line. Some may get a lot, or hardly anything at all.
The cross country ski trails in and around the traverse city are currently in great shape and more snow to come! Fact: there is no man made snow on a cross country trail. Facts have a tendency of getting in the way don’t they?
LOL 25″ of snow the entire season with tons of warmer than freezing temps throughout. It’s been horrible for cross country skiing this winter compared to most.
You are very ignorant. I was just in tc and the skiing was incredible! Just the facts!
One snowy weekend composes an entire winter? Interesting. I was up there in December and it was green.
Awesome seeing the sun for the 4th day in a row! Staying light longer every evening, we’ve gained almost an hour back already.
Polar vortex anybody know what that is? Lol INDY..
Yes the polar vortex is about ready to hammer us! Yet some say no pattern change. We are heading for a wild winter ride! Get prepared now!!!!
Definitely 6 weeks of hard Winter left … INDY!
Possibly even 8 weeks of hard winter! Buckle up!
Check out the perfect conditions up at nubs nob! They have picked up nearly 70 inches of snow so far and will be getting hammered tonight! I absolutely love it!
https://www.nubsnob.com/conditions-new/
Rule #1 I have learned. Never believe the “conditions” of a ski resort that is trying to sell you something. Nubs Nob is also 200 miles away! You must drive fast to get there in two hours LOL
Fact>>>> even though snow country is below normal for seasonal snowfall the outdoor winter sports conditions have been awesome! I have been skiing and snowmobiling all winter long and no change in sight! What a great winter so far! Incredible!
A meager 25-50″ up north this winter and double digit days above freezing in both December and January. Horrible winter conditions unless you like to pay for man made snow and slush LOL
Here’s something you may not hear on the news: Last week was another below average snowfall week. And what little snow on the ground will soon become unusable with more rain upcoming.
Hey, 10° doesn’t feel so bad. It’s funny how the body can acclimate itself.
Yes a lot warmer than yesterday!
It looks like another trip up to the TC/Boyne area for a few days starting on Thursday! I love the fact it is a short 2 hour drive up to snow country and perfect winter conditions! Rock n Roll will never die!
Traverse City and Gaylord are both almost 3 feet below average snowfall now.
Breaking weather news>>>>>>the updated 6Z RDB snowfall map actually agrees with NWS. The GR area will pick up 1 to 3inches of snow with the caveat that Northern Kent county and Muskegon county may pick up 3 to 5 inches and snow county will get absolutely hammered with 8 to 12 inches of snow!!!
