Another round of gusty winds is in store, ramping up this afternoon out of the south, then shifting west for Saturday. The strongest gusts of 40 to 50 mph will occur late Friday night with the passage of a strong cold front. Rain showers Friday night will transition to a period of light snow showers early Saturday but little or no accumulation is expected.
Yesterday’s high was 37° and the low was 27.5°.
Forecast Discussion
...Windy today... Wind will increase today in response to a tightening pressure gradient as low pressure over the Plains moves toward the Great Lakes. Model ensemble wind gust progs have nudged down a bit but still support wind gusts over 40 MPH especially after midnight as the cold front arrives. Bufkit wind profiles also tap into the 45kt range after 06z. Given the slight downward trend in wind speed forecasts, we`re going to hold off on any headlines. NamNest and HRRR shows light rain showers developing over the western cwa late this evening just ahead of the cold front as condensation pressure deficits take a nose dive. As the colder pours in behind the front, some of the rain showers may mix with or change to snow showers, especially over the northern cwa closer to the coldest air. The northern row of counties may see an inch, but generally a dusting elsewhere. Boundary layer air really drys out Saturday and we should see a return to some sunshine that will carry us through the weekend. ...Light rain possible Monday... A weak low is progd to move across Ontario Monday dragging a weak front with it. There is a chance we`ll see some light rain/snow with it, but much of the dynamics associated with it remain well north of the cwa. The rest of the week could remain dry. The ECMWF shows a low moving out of the Gulf but remaining over the southern states. Meanwhile the GFS is a bit farther north with the precipitation shield and may clip the southern cwa with precipitation. Both models also show a large high over southern Canada at that time, so we`ll lean on that high pushing the precipitation farther south.
Get ready and remember the last half of December will be snowy! Get prepared now!

Watching my favorite inland lakes starting to freeze over just like last winter should be another record breaking ice fishing season looking forward to it … fish in the freezeer makes a happy INDY … 😊
Yes this winter will be even better for ice fishing and skiing! Wow, just wow!
It was definitely a weird month. Lots of sunshine, lots of snow, lots of wind, lots of record warmth/cold. Overall I thought it was a great November.
Again, it’s odd that Grand Rapids was 1-2 degrees cooler than the nearby sites. Maybe Grand Rapids has been cloudier than the other cities, not sure
Thank you to the GR NWS! You guys have state of the art equipment that registers extremely accurate temp readings! As Slim stated, the entire Fall season in GR was normal for temps! The above normal pattern has clearly been smashed! Now get ready for a wild winter! Incredible!
November was another warm month. Outside of the incorrect readings at GR, it looks like 2022 will likely go down as another warm year. Our 4th warm year in a row I believe?
Looks like November was the 6th or 7th above average month for the year depending on where you live. Any totals for the amount of sunshine last month? We seemed to have had a lot more sunny days than some November’s when it’s dark all month.
Hard to believe another year is almost over with. Soon it will be 2023. Looking back on the weather this year (at least for me) the noteworthy events were the 10-13” snowstorm in early Feb. significant wind damage June 13th, wind damage July 23rd and one other day I cannot think of. Then would be the near record setting November snow. The biggest event for me was being hit by the EF-3 tornado while up in Gaylord. Being inside a tornado is an experience like no other unless you experience it yourself. It’s actually something I’ve always wanted to experience… Read more »
