A bit early to talk about snow but there is some in Siberia where temps are in the 30s. Temps in northern Canada are forecast to be in the 30s and low 40s for most of this week. At this time there is snow on the ground in Siberia and northern Alaska and the Arctic ice shield is growing.
We currently have 35° at 6:30 this morning. Yesterday’s high was 67° and the low was 33°.
Dry weather and mild daytime highs will continue into Wednesday with temps in the low 70s. Rain showers are expected on Thursday, then much cooler air will arrive to end the work week. Cool and drier than average conditions are forecast through mid-month which will be perfect for farmers who are ready to bring in the corn and soybeans,
Forecast Discussion
High pressure producing mostly clear skies and calm winds early this morning is resulting in excellent radiational cooling conditions. Therefore it will be another chilly start to the day with patchy frost as well as some patchy early morning fog. A large diurnal temp swing is expected again today with ample sun that will help to boost max temps into the mid to upper 60s after a cool start to the day. Dry wx will continue Wednesday into Wednesday evening before the approaching cold front brings scattered showers late Wednesday night. A relatively better chance for showers will come along and ahead of the front Thursday. However moisture is not that impressive so at this point we just expect sct showers and rather minimal rainfall amounts and no convection given very weak instability. North to nnw flow lake effect clouds and showers are expected Thursday night and Friday particularly near Lake MI and west of US-131. H8 temps will plunge to -3 to -5 C Friday and high temps by then will only reach the 40s to near 50 degrees. There is potential for widespread frost and possibly a freeze Friday and Saturday nights which is largely contingent on extent of clearing and boundary layer decoupling. This has the potential to end the growing season across a large portion of our fcst area.

While no where near peak here in my area the color has picked up in the last few days and there is now red and yellow showing up in the area.

Seems like the leaves are behind schedule again this year… but I still think about a week ahead of last year. Last year the color peaked around Halloween or a little later
About 70% in TC I would imagine peak will be this weekend up there very beautiful lots of red this year… INDY
Yesterday was yet another in an incredible string of below normal temp days! Is this a sign of what to expect this winter! The great cool pattern keeps rocking! Incredible!
No. Only like that because of the completely clear skies at night.
I remember a big snowstorm out west early October last year. That’s not happening this year. Denver has forecasted temps in the 60’s and 70’s for at least another 3 weeks! Is this a sign of a milder winter to come?
Denver did not have its first inch of snow fall last year until December 31st
Slim
We had 12% of US snowcover in 2021 around this time. Guess it wasn’t Denver proper – but it was close.
In Slim we trust!! Thanks again for the correction…INDY
Keep the facts rolling Slim! That helps show the warm weather hype is just that – hype!
haha This blog is turning into Bill’s Blog where every late September he talks about Arctic and Siberian snow and gets all hyped for a big winter that never seems to transpire.
Yesterday was yet another great fall day with 100% of possible sunshine. The official H/L at Grand Rapids was 68/34 that low of 34 with a lot of frost, that low of 34 was the coldest low at Grand Rapids since a low of 28 way back on April 28th. The over night low here in MBY this morning so far is 38 there is just light some light frost on the roof tops. For today the average H/L at Grand Rapids is now down to 66/46. The record high for today is 87 in 1951 and the record low of 30 was set in 1943 and again in 1965. It looks warm for today and tomorrow before cooling down on Thursday the coldest days this week will be Friday and Saturday.

Another frost morning here. The forecasted high of 71 is 36 degrees warmer than it is now. That doesn’t happen every day.
I don’t know about your area but here with the sunny warm days and cool nights the leaves on the trees are now starting to show some nice color.
Slim
Mostly green still, but the maples are definitely turning. Returning from the Chicagoland area Sunday evening, it appeared that the SW corner of the state (New Buffalo/St. Joe) has turned more than here.
Get ready for the big cold front!
