Another Nice Day

We have another sunny day in store for SW Michigan.  Yesterday’s high/low was 64/34° and we have 34° once again this morning with a 33.2 dewpoint, these are 7 am readings in Otsego.  Our rainfall has been only 1.32 inches for the month of May.  Below are the weather extremes for Memorial Day.

We have the promise of 80 plus degrees coming towards the end of the week after this cool period melts away.  We should be flirting with 90° next weekend.  Our next guess for rain would be mid-week though at this time it only looks to be about a 40% chance with better chances north of Grand Rapids.

Last year we ended the month with 6.25 inches of rain most of which fell during the second half of May.  We also had frost advisories north of Grand Rapids to close out the month as was the case in 2019.  Our main difference has been the lack of rain this year compared to 2019 and 2020.

Forecast Discussion

- Fair Weather through Memorial Day

After a frosty morning today, temperatures will moderate to only
slightly below normal by Monday with highs in the lower 70s. A
surface trough is approaching but return flow moisture does not
get going until after Tuesday.

- Upper Trough/Low brings rain chances by Wednesday

Upper trough expected to slowly move across the Great Lakes from
Wednesday through Friday. Some Gulf inflow will provide enough
moisture for a chance of showers during this period with the
greatest chance on Thursday across southern Lower Michigan.

I covered the tomato plants one again. This is one of the latest that I have had to do that. The low here was 34 and once again there is some frost in the area. It looks like the official overnight low at Grand Rapids will be 37 for two nights in a row. At This time it is clear and 38 here. I would hope that this is the last time until late September or October that we see frost.
