Not much to report here. Temperatures were a pleasant 75° yesterday with a morning low of 46°. Dry conditions prevail which is bothersome because of the dry groundcover and lack of snow last winter. Not much of the leaves from last year on the ground decomposed, plus the addition of this year is creating a tinderbox. I have only seen about five mosquitoes this year which is strange because I generally have had to spray the yard every year in previous years.
Skies will become sunny today and it will be less windy as compared to Sunday. The dry weather pattern will continue this week; no rain is expected. It will be turning cooler with lows in the 30s on Wednesday and Thursday morning. The next chance of rain will come Saturday night.

NWS Forecast
Forecast Discussion
- Dry and Cool Through The Short Term Widespread stratocu are ongoing across Lower Michigan thanks to over- lake instability given water temperatures near 18C with 850mb temps near 2C. Conditions become mostly sunny as high pressure dominates our local weather patterns during the day Monday, with highs in the 60s. HREF cloud forecasts suggest additional stratocu develops Monday night into Tuesday, though not as widespread as tonight, as delta Ts reach 14C. Mostly clear skies and light winds allow temps to fall into the upper 30s to low 40s before rebounding into the 60s Tuesday. - Risk for Frost/Freeze conditions both Tue and Wed nights Cool Canadian high pressure builds down from northern Ontario into the northern Great Lakes region during this time. Dry and cold air advection will support below normal temperatures for the area. The combination of clear/mostly clear nights and light winds will support good radiational cooling. Most ensemble members are supporting temps falling into the 30`s especially the further inland you go. The multi-run min temperature trends are lower as well. We will add frost to the forecast for both Tuesday night and Wednesday night. Frost/Freeze headlines may be needed.
We were up north all weekend. We stayed on the west bay between TC and Suttons Bay. No auroras at all Friday and Saturday nights. However, we did get a brief moment of some pink hues last night at home about 8p. It looked similar to SS’s pics.
Color report: There is hardly any color in the Leelanau peninsula and along the lakeshore to Elk Rapids. Just a bit of color at Boyne. Driving from Boyne to Gaylord, the color kept improving. From Gaylord to Grayling, the color is pretty spectacular right now.
Have a great day/week, friends.
Thanks Michael for showing my pic. We stayed up watching sfor it to flare up again , but clouds moved in.
Nice pic SS! I snapped a couple pics around 8:15 yesterday evening.
Thanks… This is when it first popped up. I didn’t know at first if it was sunset or Auroras.intil.i looked at another site that said they are happening now. Lol
I don’t know how many mosquitoes I have seen this year but it has been more than 5. I seen several yesterday. And for some reason there have been a lot of Box Elder bugs in my area the last few days. But yes it is getting on the dry side. The driest October at Grand Rapids was 0.03″ in 1952 there have been 5 Octobers with less than a half inch of rain the last time was in 1956 the last really dry October was in 2005 when just 0.71″ fell.
