Air Quality Alert

The heat and humidity really kicks in today after a very pleasant day yesterday.  That said we have an air quality alert for Muskegon, Ottawa, Allegan, and Kent Counties today.

Storms this afternoon could fire up mainly along and east of the 131 corridor producing gusty winds and locally heavy downpours.

The remnants of Barry could push into the southern counties mainly along and south of I94 bringing 1/2 to and inch of rain on Tuesday.

Our hottest days will be in the Thursday through Sunday time frame with temps rising into the low to mid 90s with heat indices push 100°.

At this time Grand Rapids July’s mean temperature is now at 75.6° and with at least the next 6 days or more of well above average temperatures we will have to see where GR’s July mean ends up at. At this time GR is heading toward a top 10 warmest July in recorded history.

Top 10 for July would be pretty impressive as that would be elite company being the hottest month of the year.

Impressive streak last year of 25 or so days in a row over 80 degrees, only to be obliterated this year. We’ll pass that easily this week, and looking at the 10 day forecast with nothing but high 80’s to mid 90’s we have a good chance of being only the 2nd July ever to have every day over 80 degrees. We’re off to the Rockies this afternoon, hope everyone enjoys the suffocating heat!

Good points! In some ways the summer of 2019 will turn out to be more impressive than last summer (which I believe was among the hottest ever – depending which category you look at).

Slim

At this point this July is running warmer then last July. As for this summer as a whole it is way too early but since 2000 Grand Rapids has had both some hot June’s, July’s and August’s and some very cool ones. On the hot side June 2005. July 2012, 2011, 2010, 2002 and 2006. August 2010, 2018. On the cool side June 2003. July 2009, 2014, 2000, August 2004. So the last 19 years have been kind of up and down

I think the consecutive 80+ degree day streak we are on is the most impressive part of this summer so far.

Well, it’s pretty much all but settled that July will end up with above average temps. Remember when many on here and the CPC was saying a cool July for us? Whoops!
