We had 1.8 inches of snow yesterday, which is 7.4 inches for the month and 62.9 inches since Thanksgiving (in Otsego). We have 26 inches at 6 am this morning. Yesterday’s high temperature was 31.5° and the low was 20°.
On and off light snow can be expected at all areas through today. An inch or two of accumulation is expected. There may be a brief period of light freezing drizzle that mixes in early in the morning. The light snow will transition to lake-effect snow showers later today and tonight. Most of the lake effect will be along and west of U.S.-131. At this time (at 6 am) there is a plume of heavier snow between Flint and Coldwater.

Weather History
1981: Lower Michigan is in the midst of a long period of thawing weather with lows above freezing and highs mostly in the 50s from the 16th to the 20th.
On February 16, 2021, a significant winter storm impacted the region with areas along the lakeshore in Sanilac and St. Clair Counties receiving over a foot of snow. The snow was light and fluffy and with northeast winds gusting to 30 mph, there was significant blowing and drifting of snow.
On February 16, 2015, Detroit tied (1904) a new daily record low of -9 degrees under calm winds and clear skies. The temperature in Flint fell to -21 degrees, which tied for the 5th coldest temperature ever recorded in the Flint Area. The previous record for February 16th was from 1963. The NWS office in White Lake reached -23 degrees, a new all-time record low which would ultimately stand for less than a week before being broken again.
Also on February 16, 1875, this marks the thirteenth day in a row of overnight low temperatures of 0 degrees or below in southeast Michigan.
Forest Discussion
- Icy conditions this morning with light snow So while the snowfall amounts failed to materialize, the unsaturated DGZ allowed for a prolonged period of freezing drizzle/freezing rain, which has created icy conditions across southern Michigan. Latest radar shows bands of precip moving through Central Lower Michigan this morning. However, the dry air aloft continues to keep the area where snow would be created dry, which will keep freezing rain the predominate precip type for the next few hours. More moisture aloft between now and sunrise will allow for precipitation to switch to snow. Due to these icy conditions will keep the advisory going through at least the morning. Latest near term models show cold northerly flow mid to late this morning. However, this will allow for drier air which will preclude good snow growth. So while snow is expected, it will be far less then previously stated. The flow this afternoon and evening will shift to the northwest which will set up a lake effect regime. - Lake effect snow with well below normal temperatures ahead Cold northwesterly flow will dominate the pattern through the week with -21C air moving over the area by Monday morning. Couple that with a still unfrozen lake and periods of lake effect snow will continue through at least the first half of the week. While accumulations will not be significant, 1-3 inches will be possible west of US 131. While lake effect will continue into Tuesday, winds will shift to a more northerly flow which will taper off widespread lake effect, though periods of snow bands could persist. Cold air continues to advect southward with lows 20 degrees below normal possible Tuesday morning. This will put temps in the single digits to near zero. Overall the region will then be fairly cold and dry with bifurcated moisture Tuesday. An upper level low moving through the Great Lakes will bring another chance for snow through the latter half of the week.
Breaking>>>>>the warm weather fanatics are posting warm weather fantasies again! All signs point towards winter weather lasting at least well into March! Very cold winter and plenty of snow chances coming up! Wow!

…WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 PM EST MONDAY…
* WHAT…Snow showers will be on the increase later this afternoon
and into tonight. The bands of snow showers will persist through
the Monday morning commute. Additional snow accumulations between
1 and 4 inches. North to northwest winds will increase as well and

* WHERE…Portions of central, south central, southwest, and west
central Michigan.
* WHEN…Until 1 PM EST Monday.
* IMPACTS…Visibility and road conditions may change rapidly over
short distances in lake effect snow. Plan on slippery road
conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday
morning commute.
It’s not everyday when you see a sliver of counties excluded from an advisory.
It looks like another very dry week upcoming. Then, signs are starting to emerge of a big warmup into spring. I’m seeing 50’s not too far out in the extended. Winter continues to die.
Well, despite all the calls on here and by NWS for a huge storm, it was another bust. GR remains several inches below average snowfall for February and for the season.
What!?!?? You mean we did not get like 3 feet of snow this weekend, like the cold weather lunatics were claiming earlier this week?!?!?
But yet we need to be paying NWS unlimited dollars for their accurate forecasting and climate research? Hmm… They still haven’t gotten their Grand Rapids temperature reporting right even though they know it’s an issue.
Maybe DOGE will look into that?? We can only hope!
NO with the upcoming cuts you will NOT be getting better weather forecasts. You will end up with Acculess weather and maybe Rocky’s weather service.

LOLOL!!!!! NWS was acting like Rocky this week with all of the snow they were predicting and we ended up with only a couple inches!
No doubt – nothing like cutting depts you know nothing about! Nothing like an ignorant billionaire and Pres. making decisions with total ignorance! Pathetic!
When was the last time central Michigan had a big storm? I can’t remember any since I bought my current house in 2018. 2015 was the last one I can remember, but memory is often biased. Definitely no blizzard warnings for us in a Loooong time.
Good morning, friends. We received an additional three or so inches of snow overnight. Still lightly snowing now. I can say with certainty, this is the most snow we’ve had on the ground in several years. The snow piles next to my driveway are waist high.
Roads are nasty here. Use caution if you have to come this way today.
Wow! We got maybe 1”.
It was a tricky forecast. We were right on the border between snow v. no snow.
Here is a fun fact. The deepest snow depth this winter so far at Grand Rapids is just 6” that is a 5-way tie for the 2nd least for the deepest snow depth for any winter since 1950 the last time was in winter of 2019/20 the least deepest snow depth since 1950 is 5” the winter of 1952/53 the deepest snow depth since 1950 is 27” in 1978.

Keep the facts coming Slim! The cold weather lunatics would have you believe that we have been buried under 4 feet of snow and temps below zero since November! Too funny!!
It’s been an easy winter. If you take out the snow early in the season that melted right away, it’s been another super short winter.
Here in MBY the temperature has held steady at 25 there was some freezing rain overnight and a whopping half inch of snow fall. At this time there is some very light snow falling and it is still 25.
