The pictures above were taken in North Carolina this was just north of Charlotte North Carolina. The guy at the Arbys said they had over 10″ of snow that is a lot for that area.
It looks like there is a good chance that this December will be a top ten in the least amount of snow fall at Grand Rapids,
Grand Rapids is on track to have one of its least snowy Decembers in recorded history (as of today only 1.9” had fallen) This low snow fall amount does not look good for anyone who wants this season to be above average in the total snow fall amount. Since 1892 in the years were December’s snow fall was less then 10 inches (41 years total) there have only been 4 winters that ended the season with above average snow fall (that is around a 10% chance) That said I would guess that this winters snow fall here in Grand Rapids will be less then 70” and very well could be less then 60” the range has been between 79.8” in 1971/72 to 30.1” in 1906/07 some other very low snow fall total winters (with below 10” in December) are 34.3” in 1934/35, 35.7” in 1943/44, 37.4” in 1908/09 and 39.7” in 1952/53. Most of the low December snow fall years ended up in the 50 to 60” range. Here are the above average winters (of the 41 winters with less then 10” in December) 79.8” in 1971/72, 79.1” 2014/15 but 31.0” of that fell in November 2014. 79.3” in 1955/56 of that 18.4” fell in November 1955. And 76.1” in 1998/99 of that 46.8” fell in January of 1999. It should be noted that January 1999 the month ended with no snow on the ground and most of February was snowless. If this happens then 2018 will be a year of some odd extremes.
2018 has had its share of odd extremes at Grand Rapids. April was the 4th coldest on record with a mean of only 40.1° this was offset by the 4th warmest May on record with a mean of 64.8° then the Mookie summer continued with July being the 21st warmest on record with a mean of 74.4° then August came in at the 11th warmest with a mean of 73.5° and the year as a whole will be one of the warmest on record the current mean is 51.2° and that is good for the 7th warmest year on record (will know the final standing on January 1st) April 2018 was the 14th and November were both the 14th snowiest at Grand Rapids with April coming in at 6.0” and November having 14.4” and now December looking very good for a top 10 in the least amount of snow fall. I guess one could call 2018 a Mookie year.
Pictures from Aruba, Aruba as you can see is a very is a very dry island.

GREAT NEWS>>>> Winter will be returning with TONS and COLD and SNOW in January! Get ready to ROCK n ROLL baby!
Have you been skiing yet this season?
Yes I have been up Nubs twice and have plans to head up to SNOW country for a few days the fist of the year! We may actually head up to UP for some snowmobiling!! The UP will be getting hammered with snow next week and beyond!
Have fun!!
Hoping WOOD will replace kyle.. We’ll see.
Probably not!! Unfortunately! INDY!
Good read Slim! It is interesting that when this year makes the top 10 least snowiest December, that will make 4 of the past 7 years in the top 10. Always good when snowfall is trending downwards!
It’s going to snow again and yes there will be accumulation. Just the fact December is running waaaay behind on snowfall makes this winter nothing like pasts winters. Spring countdown is on. Days getting longer as of today. Keep it coming ……
Light snow here too. Rooftops and grass are covered with snow and some on street. Kyle Underwood is going to be missed on Wood 8. I wish him well in his new adventures too.
Just very light trace amounts of snow here at my house. Temperature here is 30.4°

But that’s what you said last month about December.
On a sad note this is Kyle Underwood’s last day on WOOD – the giant Meteorologist will be missed – we here at the Center wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.
We have a light dusting of snow on the ground this morning – and the snowblowers have set in for a long winters nap…
