First off I would like to thank Slim for his diligent work as our data cruncher and weather historian, he does a great job digging up all the info for his Saturday posts. He is, like myself a member of CoCoRaHS and Skywarn.
It is unusual to have a string of cloudy days in June such as we have had the past few days. The weather has been good for various fungus and mushrooms to pop up in the yard. I have also noticed the greater prevalence of poison ivy around the borders of my yard.
My grass is thick and lush this year. I had to mow in a light drizzle yesterday, luckily my lawn tractor did a good job of chopping the tall grass into small pieces – I wouldn’t have had that luck with a push mower. I put down some more weed and feed and bug killer – we have had a lot of ants scurrying about, they can make a mess of the lawn if they get out of hand. I hate putting down poison as it upsets the natural balance of things but I hate ant hills and chewed up flowers and plants worse.
We have several flower beds bordering our house and property lines plus circular beds in the yard with bird baths in the center. Our tomato and pepper plants are doing well so far. We also have a gold fish pond next to the house which needs a lot of care to keep clean so we can see the fish. We also have wild strawberries and blackberries. Yes, we keep busy during the summer and then hibernate during the winter.
I am retiring in six weeks from my day job so I will have more time to putter around the house and yard plus improving this site. Seems the older I get the faster time goes by so one has to make the most of it.
We did see a few peaks of the sun yesterday afternoon. Today will be similar to yesterday – showers will continue to develop over West Michigan early this morning. There could even be a thunderstorm. Some of the rain could become locally heavy. Only a few showers are expected this afternoon/evening. High temperatures will end up below normal again for today. I am thinking most of the rain will be north of I-96.
Monday should feature a good amount of sunshine, so enjoy it as another wet system will move in for Tuesday night into Wednesday with the possibility of of another inch or so of rain and some storms. We will see a warming trend after that system moves through with temperatures in the upper 80s to near 90 Thursday and Friday.
