Well, summer doesn’t officially start until June 21, however we are finally headed in the right direction, for awhile anyway.
We have cloudy skies this morning with a very light drizzle here in Otsego. We had our 5th 80° day yesterday. Our location isn’t the best for temperature readings. I am in the Kalamazoo river valley in the woods surrounded by trees so it typically is warmer here, sometimes down right stifling because of the lack of good wind currents. We can see the tops of the trees moving on windy days but at ground level we have a light breeze. The valley tends to hold in the heat.
This will be the 5th latest date since records began in 1892, for it to reach 80 degrees in Grand Rapids. In 1924 it took till the 12th to reach 80 degrees. That is the latest date on record for Grand Rapids to reach 80 degrees.
This is beach hazards and water safety week. Haven’t seen many out swimming at Lake Michigan yet or the inland lakes for that matter. Gun Lake is probably the shallowest lake in the area so it generally warms up quickly.
