Rain and Snow

posted in: Michigan Weather Forecast | 30

On Saturday I went to Meijers to pick up our bi-monthly large bags of dog, cat and bird food – the gentleman at the checkout said he believed I had all the bases covered – I told him we keep two large bags of deer corn on hand also.

Before we fenced in our back yard years ago the deer would come right up to our deck.  Now they look longingly through the fence watching the squirrels and birds feasting.  I think the word has gotten out that we feed the animals as we have had a large amount of birds and squirrels around the feeders this winter, more than usual.  I often wonder if we are the only ones who feed the animals on this side of Otsego.

Temps here didn’t drop below freezing and the rain started around 3:45am – we have had .02 since it began.  Rain will continue off and on through late Tuesday before changing to snow of the lake effect variety.  It will be windy today with gusts up to 40mph.  So, ho-hum the beat goes on….  There is snow on ground at Boyne as seen in the photo (feature image) sent in by Rocky (thanks).  Timber ridge in Alamo remains closed but Bittersweet here in Otsego remains open with a 22″ base.

On a side note I am being forced into some server side updates this week so if things go haywire please bare with me as I sort them out.

Ha, love the line that says “the ability to think clearly can be impaired by the cold”. Seems so true when you observe some people.

Wait till it’s snowing in April again lol INDY!

Snow we get in April never lasts more than a day or two, can’t stop the suns climbing angle which melts snow rapidly. What matters is how much snow we get from December – February. Next week is the half way point, and we have hardly received jack squat when it comes to snow.

Imagine if all the rain the past couple of weeks was snow.

14 weeks of “real world” winter yet to come, along with our “routine”, 50+ additional inches of snow, sparks no attention from MI residents. The only headline is timing. A more back-ended winter does nothing more than cause a more dangerous, damaging, and deadly result to the season.

Lol 14 weeks? The shtick is getting old, Mr. Negative.

Wow what a pile of rain! Another Winter month with more inches of rain than inches of snow. Perfect!

Well going by the forecast for tomorrow, looks like rain and temps in the 40s. Going to be hard to get 3 inches of snow in that weather:

43°HI
RealFeel® 37°
Precipitation 66%
Mostly cloudy; a morning shower, then rain and snow showers with little or no accumulation.

Nice Slim! Something to shoot for! With the outlooks showing pretty mild for the next 2 weeks, I think we may have a chance!

We are now more than one third into the 2018/19 meteorological winter season. And while may be not what winter lovers wanted one has to say this has been a historic start to winter. So far here at Grand Rapids there has only been 4 inches of total snow fall. The most on the ground at any one time has only been one inch. The mean temperature is above 32 the warmest it has been since December 1st has been 53 and the coldest has been just 13. The last 28 days have been above average and 29 of the… Read more »

Historic indeed! What are the records for least amount of January snow? Might as well make a run for the top 10 there as well!

Average low temp is in the teens.

Most people prefer rain because you don’t need to shovel it or pay to have it removed. Older people prefer it because you don’t have ice to fall and break your hip on. I drive for several elderly people, and this Winter has been just phenomenal because they haven’t had to worry about any snow or ice.

Welcome to the 28th straight warm day in a row!

More bad news for the winter lovers: the latest runs have backed off any major cold in January and February.

Temp at 35 here this morning with nothing but rain. Maybe this should be a Winter Rain Advisory??

We have had mor birds than normal to at the feeders, but the turkeys have stayed away because there is plenty for the, to eat in the fields because there is no snow cover that they have to dig through.
