Not much going on at 6am, just a bit of light snow with a temp of 11°. Looking at the RAP, NAM and NAMNEST models they all are in agreement with the snow intensifying after 9am with snowfall totals in the 8 to 14 inch range by midnight tonight.
Allegan and Kalamazoo counties have been added to the warning area which lasts until 7am tomorrow morning forecasting 6 to 10 inches of snow with winds gusting to 40mph.
Most of the rest of the counties including Kent, Ottawa and Ionia the warning lasts until 7pm tonight with 8 to 12 inches of snow and winds gusting to 40mph.
Those in the advisory area can expect 4 to seven inches of snow and gusty winds. I suspect Lansing will be on the higher side of the snowfall. Regardless of the snow amount the temps will be cold. Temps may rise to close to 30° south of I96 while the further north you go it will be colder – Gaylord will be lucky to get out of the teens today.
It will be a cold and snowy day but temps are expected to be back to well above freezing by the weekend. Be careful if you choose to go out into the elements today….
