Flood Info – More Rain On The Way

posted in: Michigan Weather Forecast | 11

Another wet morning underway – we have received over 5 inches of rain thus far in Otsego for the month.  I hope to get some photos and video later today or tomorrow of the Kalamazoo river behind my house.  This means getting on the mudrucker boots and trudging 100 yards downhill through the woods.  Sometimes the cats follow me down when I walk around the area so I will be in safe hands (or paws).  The latest flood information can be found here at the NWS.

Our current weather pattern favors rain events about every other day. This morning will start with an area of rain moving through the area but it will be out of the area by early afternoon. Areas near Route 10 may see a little freezing rain at the start but it should change to all rain there by mid morning. Rainfall amounts will be light.

High pressure briefly follows this system for tonight into Saturday but a stronger storm will track west of the Great Lakes Saturday night bringing a period of showers and isolated thunderstorms. Skies should clear Sunday afternoon but it will be breezy.

High pressure moves in for Sunday night into Tuesday but then the next system follows but this time we have a stationary front setting up so we could see periods of rain into Friday. It will be much warmer than normal through this entire period with temperatures into the 50s on Tuesday and Wednesday.

ADA – water from the Grand in all of the expected flooding places this morning. We don’t have very much room to spare, considering maximum water level arrives tomorrow afternoon 🙁 The Village of Ada was raised 10 feet over the past year and a half…proving to be a wise decision this weekend.

What do you mean the Village of Ada was raised 10 feet over the past year? Could you explain it. Thanks.

Yep…raised 10 feet. Ada Drive, which runs through the center of Ada, as well as, all the land surrounding the the road was raised. Road torn out, buildings leveled, dirt brought in, road and buildings rebuilt…compliments of the VanAndel and Devos “kids”. If not, we would be under water today.

WOW!! That was a great idea to do that. We have a road that needs to be built up here. They talk about it but not sure it will ever happen. I hope you stay dry.

Thanks Michael for using snowman photo yesterday.
We have some low spots where the ground feels like walking on a sponge…we have a lot of sand around us. It feel more like November than February!!!

The flooding that will/is taking place is more likely than not the worst non ice jam flooding to take place in Michigan history. At this time the total precipitation here at Grand Rapids for this month is now at 4.82″ this puts GR in 3rd place for the all time most for February and is the most for any February since 1938 when 5.30″ was reported the record is 5.77″ in 1898 but in looking at the daily report for that month I question that amount (there are back to back days with 1.40″ and that is with 6 and… Read more »

Give the Rocky guy/gal credit, saying it would be a February to remember. Finally nailed a prediction.

So is there such a thing as a water blower? I’m going to need one to start blowing water out of my yard if we get much more rain! Might as well pack away the snow blower for the year.

Lots of flooding here still with many roads closed including Grand River Ave (M-43). Worst since the big flood of ’75. I’ll be curious to see Bill’s great lakes level update in a week or two.
