Excessive Heat Warning –

Lots to talk about this morning.  At 7am we have a large area of rain with embedded thunder moving across the lake – at this time it appears to have the ability to cover the whole state with wide spread rain should it all hold together.  This will only add to the misery after the rain moves out later this morning and the sun comes out.

  • We have an Excessive Heat Warning for Ottawa, Kent, Ionia, Clinton counties on to the east and south.
  • There is a heat advisory for central Michigan.
  • There is an Air Quality Alert for Muskegon, Ottawa, Kent, Allegan and Van Buren Counties.

To make matters worse, if you seek relief on lake Michigan today there will be large waves and rip currents so swimming is not recommended.

We have chances of several rounds of thunderstorms today and tonight – the SPC has us in a marginal risk area for severe weather.

That said, we can expect miserable weather conditions today in regards to the heat and humidity.  Temps will reach 90° with heat indices in the mid to upper 90s late this afternoon.  These conditions will last through Saturday.

I missed the Weather History post yesterday – I will squeeze it in tomorrow….

While only 0.12″ of rain fell here at my house and it looks like 0.21″ out at the airport but with the rain and clouds it has really held the temperatures down. At this time it looks like the high out at the airport has been just 79 and the current temperature both at the airport and here at my house is 75 with a dew point of 69 at both locations.

84° here. The NWS said the cloud cover may keep us below the advisory/warning criteria today. Always better to err on the side of caution

Just think on in the winter time with a “Winter Storm Warning” with 1″ of so of snow. Just kidding but hey with the rain that was moving in and the clouds it would be hard to get really hot today. It still could get hot if the sun comes out but we shall see.

Had a heavy but brief thundershower here that dropped 011″ of rain. As of noon the high at Grand Rapids so far is at 79 the current temperature here at my house is 75 with a dew point of 69.

Yep…makes sense. We should enjoy the opportunity to borrow a portion of warmth from other areas of the country. A relatively warm 48 hours let’s the residents of the Southern Arctic relax, though for only a moment, as preparations for the catastrophic Winter/2020 must continue.

WOOD has us back to 85 degrees next week now. I don’t see many 70’s in our extended forecast. More heat today!

Wow, 3 day heat warning back home? Can’t remember the last time I saw that in our area. Looks like overnight lows never got below 70, sounds awful. We were on a road yesterday that had snow piled over 8 foot deep yet, just crazy!

Where are you? It was warm here last nigh but not all that bad, at this time it is cloudy and there is rain moving in from the west so not sure just how hot it will get today as it will take a while for the rain to move out and the skies to clear (if they indeed do) Enjoy your trip.

That pic was on the old Fall River road in Rocky Mountain Park. It’s the old one way gravel road that was the original road taken by the early settlers in their covered wagons to get through the mountains. It just opened last week because they had to clear the snow off of it to make it usable.

I was shocked how cool it got overnight never had to turn the air on just a fan with todays rain lets see how. Hot it really gets ..Come on Sunday tired of the heat …INDY!

Slim

I have to wonder how hot it will get today as well. There looks to be a lot of rain heading this way. And after this weekend there looks to be a long stretch of cooler weather into August. Of course long range guesses come with a grain of salt as things could change but it looks cooler and maybe dry for some time ahead.

Today will be the 24th day in a row of 80 or better here at Grand Rapids. That is a long streak for this area I will have more on this in Saturday’s post. Well we should hit 80 or better today but there is a lot of rain heading this way we shall see. 80 should be reached but not sure when the rain will end and if the sun comes out.

I took my walk early today with the temperatures in the low 70’s (73 here at my house and the airport) and the Dew Point around 70 (70 at the airport 68 here at my house) it was a very nice morning to walk. There has not been much rain here on the NW side of GR but the grass is still mostly green even in the areas that have not been watered. Grand Rapids remains in a thunderstorm drought as there have only been 4 reported for June and July
